Chatham County is seeking an Assistant Maintenance Superintendent to work in construction, maintenance, or Storm Water maintenance. If you meet the minimum requirements, consider applying for this supervisory position.Under the supervision of the Maintenance Superintendent, you will 

  • Provide backup support in managing field and office activities in the areas of either Storm Water, Road Maintenance, or Solid Waste operations for the County. 
  • Participate in planning, organizing, directing, and coordinating the work of Maintenance Supervisors, Equipment Operators, and Maintenance Workers. 
  • Oversee projects, conduct stormwater and road repairs, prepare written specifications for various repairs to the Storm/Drainage system, MS4 inspections as well as road repairs, and prepare weekly and monthly work schedules. 
  • Assist with prioritizing projects, resolving problems, and determining the best courses of action. 
  • Coordinate and oversee operational and safety training. 
  • Serve on the Critical Work Force in the County Disaster Plan and must be on 24-hour call for emergencies. Prepare and present weekly reports, counsel employees, resolve grievances, coordinate training activities, and occasionally perform public relations activities. 
  • Perform work that requires knowledge of traffic control, traffic laws and regulations, the Manual for Uniform Traffic Control, and Municipal Separate Storm Water System (MS4). 
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • High School Diploma or GED, and 
  • Advanced training in construction, engineering, or a closely related field, and 
  • At least four (4) years' experience in Public Works operations with a management role; or 
  • Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. 
  • Must possess a Georgia Commercial Pesticide License in both Right-of-Way and Aquatic Pests or be able to obtain within six months of employment. 
  • Must possess or be able to obtain Georgia Soil and Water Conservation Commission (GSWCC) Level 1B Certification. 
  • Must provide and wear approved steel toe protective footwear during regular working hours.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license. 

Other Qualifications:

  • Class A or B CDL is highly preferred.
  • TWIC card is highly desirable, and you must be able to obtain a Savannah-Hilton Head Airport Area of Operation Badge. 
  • Experience applying and utilizing GIS principles and software is a plus.
