Job Description:

Applications are invited for a lecturer position in mathematics beginning August 19, 2024. This position entails teaching a wide variety of introductory undergraduate mathematics and statistics courses, from preparatory algebra, statistics and precalculus, through calculus, and linear algebra.

The position is a full-time continuing nine-month appointment contingent on satisfactory performance and instructional need. The expected instructional assignment is between 24 and 30 credit hours per academic year. Summer assignments are available.

Applicants must have a master's degree or Ph.D. in mathematics or a related field. Applicants must have prior University teaching experience.

Experience with active learning approaches and an interest in the challenges of teaching preparatory mathematics is highly desired. Applicants should be proficient with the use of technology in teaching mathematics.

The teaching load is 15 credit hours per semester, typically including either three or four classes. Consideration of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education and experience:

  • Graduate Degree in Mathematics or Statistics.

  • Proficient with the use of technology in teaching mathematics.

  • Prior University teaching experience.

  • Experience with multi-section lecture/recitation

Communication and other skills:

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage students and creating a successful and stimulating learning environment

  • Creative teaching skills, including but not limited to active learning, inquiry based learning, distance learning and the use of technology in order to improve the pedagogical impact

  • Available, respectful and that has the highest professional standards in regard to interactions with students

Preferred Qualifications:

PhD degree in Mathematics or Statistics.
