Working with the Principals, Founder and design team, the Assistant Designer acts as administrative and design support on all phases of high-end, residential interior design projects. This position requires some knowledge of interior design and a strong ability to organize information, manage time and documentation, and follow through on assignments under deadline pressure. Please note that you must have a valid and current student and/or work visa and reside in the U.S.


Assist the Principals, Senior Designers, and Design Associates with various design and administrative tasks related to all phases of high-end, residential interior design from initial planning through project completion.

Gather detailed information and quotes for preparation of accurate design proposals. Create and prepare proposals and proposal packages for submission to clients.

Prepare and submit purchase orders to vendors.

Maintain continual communication with Principal and design team staff regarding project timelines and orders, including the progress of custom orders, timing for fabric selections, workroom inspections, and other project-related information.

Research and supply information to Design Associates and Senior Designers for successful creation of project budgets.

Track and coordinate all reserves, CFAs, lead times, inspections, deliveries, and installations. Schedule review of items for approval with vendor and client.

Support the Design Associates in the preparation of floor, space, and furniture plans and elevations in AutoCAD, and the production of hand drawings or computer renderings that communicate design intent.

Support the Design Associates in the preparation and maintenance of interior design plan documents such as finish schedules, specifications, product/room matrixes, templates, schedules, and shop drawings.

As needed, assist the design team with product sourcing and installations.

Develop long-term relationships with clients, design showrooms and vendors.

Maintain all project-related information in paper filing systems, electronic folders, and Studio IT.

Assist in the weekly maintenance of the office.

Other duties as assigned.



2 or 4-year degree in Interior Design or Interior Architecture or equivalent skill set

At least one to two years of experience in high-end residential design

Some administrative experience

Experience and comfort working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment


Must be detail-oriented, organized, accurate and consistent in all paperwork and data management

Creative problem-solving, organizational, and time management skills

Clear and concise communication skills, both verbal and written

Beginner-level skills in AutoCAD, SketchUp, and/or other design programs

Knowledge of - or ability to quickly learn - Studio IT

Ability to interact with peers, management, and other staff in a professional manner

Ability to work within a team and proactively create harmonious and professional relationships

Willingness to observe company policies, procedures, and the instructions of the Principal and management

Interest in furniture and product design

The Senior Designer is responsible for all aspects of the design process from concept through installation, for helping establish and monitor project budget and schedule, for guiding the design staff, and for establishing and maintaining good client and vendor relationships. This position requires a candidate with a strong track record of managing all phases of design projects and ensuring client satisfaction, while overseeing quality control and project financial performance. </p> <p>RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to:</p> <ul> <li>Manage high-end residential interior design projects from concept to installation, including space planning and interior architectural design.</li> <li>Utilize AutoCAD (or other) to develop construction drawings, furniture layouts and lighting design.</li> <li>Source and select interior finishes, fixtures, furnishings, fabrics, lighting, hardware and accessories.</li> <li>Ability to design cabinetry and trim details.</li> <li>Prepare and deliver client presentations.</li> <li>Manage the daily workflow of junior staff and provide regular project status updates to the Project Manager and/or Principal.</li> <li>Keep all interested parties apprised of significant details and events. Maintain continual two-way communication with principals and project team regarding project and client details. Regularly interact with clients in person and via phone/email to provide progress reports and address questions and concerns. </li> <li>Attend regularly scheduled project meetings. Visit job site and travel as necessary to complete project tasks. Must own and have sole access to a reliable car. </li> <li>Communicate regularly with General Contractor and Project Manager to support construction schedule.</li> <li>Implement the firm’s procurement standards. </li> <li>Coordinate and execute project installations, photo shoots, etc.</li> </ul> <p><br></p><p><strong>Requirements</strong></p><p>QUALIFICATIONS &amp; SKILLS:</p><ul> <li>7+ years of hands on experience in a residential design firm, minimum of 3 years experience as senior designer</li> <li>Bachelor's Degree in Interior Design or Interior Architecture, or equivalent</li> <li>Must have strong technical skills and be highly skilled with construction documents, hand drawing, drafting in AutoCAD (or equal), MS Office Suite (especially Outlook and Excel). Other software a plus: Design Manager Photoshop, SketchUp, 3-D rendering program</li> <li>Highly experienced with creating, redlining, and submitting Construction Documents and cabinetry shop drawings</li> <li>Custom detailing for architectural materials (cabinetry, tile/stone, and furniture) and soft goods (pillows, drapery, bedding)</li> <li>Strong Knowledge of materials, applications, and construction</li> <li>In-depth knowledge of local and online showrooms and resources (knowledge of LA and NYC resources a plus)</li> <li>Strong time management skills a must</li> <li>Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills</li> <li>Self-motivated and ability to work on multiple projects at once</li> <li>Must be highly organized and care about everything being in the right place.</li> <li>Ability to work in a close team environment, while interacting and working effectively with architects, contractors, clients, vendors, fabricators in a professional and assertive manner.</li> <li>Able to communicate effectively, positively, and productively with staff and colleagues.
