The Opportunity

The Institute for Simulation and Training (IST) at the University of Central Florida's (UCF) School of Modeling, Simulation, and Training invites applications for the position of assistant in research software development. This is a position primarily funded by contracts and grants which will support research and development in high-performance computing technologies.

This will include exploration of high-performance computing using UCF's computational clusters, tool development and application, and review of efforts in such areas. The clusters run Linux and use SLURM for scheduling jobs; this position will use both to support researchers across the university to run research computing applications on the clusters. The position will also co-supervise student assistants.

IST is a leader in providing cutting-edge training technologies that span high-performance computing and its use across domains. The qualified candidate will have opportunities to work with advanced computational cluster platforms, software and technologies involved in such platforms, and participate in a rapid-paced, production-oriented team environment. This position in a 12-month, non-tenure-track position reporting to the principal investigator of IST's efforts in this area.

Minimum Qualifications:

Earned bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a field related to computer science, computer engineering, or modeling and simulation and three years of related professional experience.

Demonstrated experience in the technical aspects of programming and/or system administration.

Knowledge and experience in a programming language (C, C++, and/or Python).

Preferred Qualifications:

Demonstrated experience in high-performance computing platforms, particularly the use of SLURM, Ansible, Cobbler, or other computing technologies. Experience in administrating such platforms.
