Essential Job Functions:   Utilizing excellent customer service skills, The Assistant Golf Professional establishes and maintains effective working relationships with fellow employees, officials, and all members of the public.

Under the direction of the Director of Golf, supervises Pro Shop personnel and directs the daily operations of the Pro Shop, including: communicating with the Superintendent to ensure daily course conditions and proper golf cart regulations are followed; oversee and collect fees that will assist in efficiently operating the golf shop; initially inspect golfers to ensure that proper course attire is worn (no sleeveless shirts and no metal spikes); provide appealing and orderly display of merchandise, ensuring that proper levels of stock are maintained; ensure that proper levels of Pro Shop operating supplies are maintained; provide and maintain handicap services through the USGA's GHIN system; work with the Director of Golf to schedule the required staff members to ensure efficient operation of the Pro Shop at all times; assist in ordering and purchasing merchandise to be sold in the Pro Shop.   Assist the Director of Golf in operating the golf course during the season including: implementing City of Beaumont policies and procedures; provide professional golf services for the golfing public within the clubhouse and on the course; conduct tournaments, outings and special events; work closely with other staff members to ensure signed contracts are followed on the course; provide the website administrator with the most up to date information about golf programs and special events; direct the production of the monthly newsletter including delegating articles to other staff members.  Give lessons as assigned to include but not limited to: all player development and junior golf programs.  Assist the Director of Golf in planning each golf season according to budget, including: purchasing inventory and hiring staff; selecting and ordering staff uniforms; developing instructional and player development programs; assisting Director of Golf to develop and maintain Junior Golf Programs; developing contracts and requirements for golf outings and leagues; scheduling golf outings and special events; setting up fee structures, sales items and tee sheets in the golf software program; act as on-site Professional on duty, when necessary.

Works inside with limited outside activity.    Hours vary due to seasonal conditions and are relative to the opening and closing of a golf course.   Must be available to work weekends and holidays.

Knowledge:   Knowledge of daily golf operations required.

 Knowledge of sales and cash register operations and reporting.   Basic knowledge of golf.   Knowledge of general rules, functions, and procedures involved in cashier operations.

 Knowledge of a spreadsheet system in order to maintain inventory throughout the pro shop.   Fundamental knowledge of the game of golf, rules of golf, golf facility operations and tournament operations; fundamental supervisory practices and principles.

Skills/Abilities:   Experienced in written and oral business communications.

 Strong leadership skills; strong organizational, planning and prioritization skills. Self-motivated with desire to promote and market.  Excellent service and customer focused attitude.

 Ability to maintain pro shop inventories, operate a computer terminal, printer, cash drawer, calculator, typewriter, copier and vacuum.   Ability to interact with vendors in both a face-to -face manner and via telephone or conference calls in order to troubleshoot when necessary.  Ability to perform arithmetic computations quickly and accurately.

 Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with other employees and patrons.  Ability to demonstrate flexibility in executing various job functions as required.   Must be comfortable and accurate with handling cash.  Ability to perform minor custodial functions.

Physical Requirements:  Constantly hears and sees; frequently hears, writes, uses computer, calculator and cash register; sorts, stands, sits, walks, mops, vacuums, and lifts or pushes objects weighing up to 10 lbs.

 Infrequently squats and bends.   Uses cleaning solvents while performing custodial services in pro shop.

Education/Experience:   Graduation from high school or equivalent.

 Three (3) years prior golf course experience preferred; PGA Apprentice - Level 1 or Higher.   Four (4) year degree and supervisory experience preferred.  Should actively pursue PGA membership (if a PGA Apprentice) in a timely manner through the PGA Professional Golf Management (PGA PGM) program.  Some experience/education in sales or as a cashier or related experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.

Will need to obtain TABC certification upon hiring.  Must possess a valid Class C driver's license with a good driving record.

 Other state valid Driver's License equivalent to Texas Class C with a good driving record will be considered.  Texas state law requires within 30 days of residency, you must possess a valid Texas driver's license.  Applicant selected for hire will be subject to a background investigation and drug/alcohol screen test.
