Job Title: Speech Language Pathologist

.3 FTE Speech Pathologist Position

Supervisor: Director of Special Education

POSITION SUMMARY

To help reduce or eliminate speech and language disorders that interfere with the individual

student's ability to derive full benefit from the district's educational program.

QUALIFICATIONS - EXPERIENCE - KNOWLEDGE:

? Illinois PEL with Speech Language endorsement

? Knowledge of special education related laws and regulations

? Good verbal communication skills required

? Ability to organize information and problem solve complex situations

? Strong interpersonal skills

? Experience with high school students preferred

ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES (other duties may be assigned):

The tasks listed below are representative of the essential performance responsibilities. Tasks

assigned to individuals will vary based on student needs and it is possible not all duties will be

performed in any given year. However individuals must be able to perform the following duties,

with or without reasonable accommodation, as assigned by their supervisor.

? Provide speech-language therapy for students per IEP needs.

? Provide diagnostic services to students who exhibit speech and/or language problems.

? Consult with IEP Team members regarding behavior management, learning problems and

program delivery.

? Design and establish a remediation program for the speech and/or language impaired

student.

? Collaborate with those in charge of implementing the IEP to formulate a plan for using

AT to support the educational achievement of the student.

? Evaluate the program and the progress of each student quarterly.

? Coordinate the speech and language program with the educational program.

? Participate in interdisciplinary educational staffings in order to plan for appropriate

educational needs of speech and/or language impaired students.

? Record all pertinent data regarding services which have been provided to speech and/or

language impaired students.

? Act as a resource to the classroom teacher encouraging referrals and providing assistance

in establishing speech and/or language carryover activities in the classroom.

? Maintains lists of referred, screened, and eligible students, as well as a directory of

outside agencies, consultants, specialists, and related services.

? Assumes primary responsibility for requisitioning and maintaining needed equipment and

supplies.

? Develops an individualized educational program for each student enrolled.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit

and see, talk and hear. The employee is required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel,

or crouch. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 35 pounds on often and up to 15

pounds regularly/daily. The employee may be required to push wheelchairs, assist with lifting of

students, and provide other physical assistance to students. The employee must be able to

physically assist students in all aspects of the student's IEP. The employee must be able to travel

to different work sites during the day and must be able to work on a variety of surfaces both

indoors and outdoors and may include locations outside the school such as community based

programs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, such as to read type

or hand written material. There is frequent computer and phone work. The noise level in the

work environment is that of a high school and can be loud when in places like gyms and

cafeterias. The employee is continuously interacting with students and staff.
