Butler Hospitality is a fast growing company that operates hotel dining rooms and bars, along with room service throughout Manhattan. This position is an excellent opportunity to learn the inner workings of the hotel industry. Our group is expanding rapidly and will always look to promote from within. The General Manager is responsible for providing a great Guest experience while providing leadership over the front-of-house (FOH) and back-of-house (BOH) team to prepare and serve delicious and safe food to our patrons while meeting or exceeding our business objectives.

Requirements

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Handles all guest relations, concerns, and complaints. Maintain a visible presence on the floor and interact with Guest and Team Members during peak business periods.
  • Is responsible for all aspects of employee relations, including but not limited to hiring, disciplining, developing, coaching, mediating, recognizing and evaluating team members according to our companys policy.
  • Develops employees schedules and requested rotation to balance out the staffing levels on a weekly basis.
  • Solicits feedback from the team to continuously drive operational improvements.
  • Implements the standard of conduct, appearance, attendance, cash handling, confidentiality, and sanitation.
  • Enforce house rules and ensure they are being followed properly.
  • Properly edit payroll for accurate processing of paychecks.
  • In charge of inventory and purchasing based on inventory needs lead by our head server and head line cook.
  • Manages all financial operating expenses and reports, including but not limited to budgets, labor costs, and cost of goods.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment.

Requirements

  • 2-5 years of experience in a venue with casual dining and active bar scene, or experience in catering is required.
  • Experience overseeing multiple restaurants venues preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.) applications is required.
  • Must be Food Handler/Food Protection-certified within 3 months of employment.
  • Knowledge in Micros is a plus.
  • Business acumen with a problem solving attitude.
  • Working during weekends, holidays and peak business periods are required, including working any shift/day designated by the department.
  • Consistently offers professional, friendly and proactive guest service while supporting fellow Team Members.
  • The ability to clearly communicate operational tasks in English is required. Must demonstrate proficient English writing skills and must be effective in engaging with our Guests to listen to their feedback and resolve their concerns
  • Legal to work in the USA

The Assistant General Manager oversees all business support services (administrative, audio visual, billing/finance, customer service, venue and banquet staff). The position will be responsible to direct train and develop front of the house staff for both full and part time employees. Manages the delivery of event services ensuring seamless, high quality execution. Reviews all event orders to determine appropriate staffing levels, room assignments, event décor, and enhancements as they relate to room set ups. Communicates all changes with the catering team and make adjustments according to the above items. Communicates information to the culinary team and other supportive departments prior to and during events. Analyzes client contracts and interprets coordination points with University standards. Identifies the possibility of selling additional services. Proven ability to interact with a broad constituency is necessary. Proficient in Word and Excel. Minimum Qualifications for Grade Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant Bachelor's degree required. Minimum 5-7 years of related experience required; preferably in the hospitality field. Financial management experience required. Strong organizational and supervisory skills is required Extensive management experience in food service. Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evening and weekends to cover various catering functions throughout the year Additional Position-Specific Minimum Qualifications Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant Special Instructions Preferred Qualifications Previous experience supervising a unionized workforce is highly desirable. Working knowledge of a University environment is desired Essential Functions The AGM works closely with senior leadership on budget planning and financial management providing necessary supporting documents (labor reports, sales reports, etc.) to ensure the standard operating policies and procedures in place are appropriate and effective. Works with customer service and finance staff to ensure accurate record keeping related to the posting and billing of all room rental charges, food, audio visual, special fees (i.e. flowers, china, linen fees/tracking) and contracts related to events and conferences. Analyzes catering event orders, communicates effectively with the client, as well as peers and staff to ensure that all room set ups, equipment, supplies, staffing and menus meet/exceed the client's expectations. Manages all front-of-the-house staff. Holds weekly meetings to ensure all UEM support areas understand the upcoming events and business, and all events meet/exceed the client's expectations. Manages and schedules staff to maintain the service standards of University Event Management while operating within budgeted labor cost guidelines. Responsible for reviewing payroll for all union staff and temporary staff for accuracy. Ensures adherence to Federal, State, Local and Columbia University sanitation and OSHA rules, regulations, standards and codes. Works with the communications/marketing team to utilize a variety of tools to assess customer's opinions. Continually improve products and services to meet the needs of the campus community. Interacts effectively and diplomatically with the University community including staff, management, campus departments, student organizations, and the general public. Develops relationships with people from public areas of the University to maintain a customer friendly environment.
