Provides a full range of legal advice and services. Responsibilities are within the Legal Function as a generalist or in a combination of Disciplines.

  • Provides guidance to internal company clients with respect to applicable legal requirements and company policies that are overseen by the legal group.

  • Represents (without close supervision from senior lawyers) the company's positions in regulatory and commercial matters.

  • Has the expertise to provide internal clients (without close supervision) legal advice in assigned areas.

  • Evaluates, responds to and independently handles certain investigations and litigation matters.

  • Drafts and reviews contracts.

  • Drafts proposed board resolutions.

  • Evaluates cross-border legal matters.

  • Education Required: Law Degree (e.g., in the U.S., the Juris Doctor degree). Depending on location, may be required to qualify for a license to practice law (in the U.S., must be admitted to the bar).

  • Experience Required: At least 5 years preferably involving the financial services industry and/or regulatory and competition policy.

  • Special Qualifications:
    Familiarity with the financial services sector. Good understanding of the products and services supported.

Energize your career at Exelon! PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION Exelon is seeking a highly experienced environmental, health and safety attorney to handle complex legal matters and projects. The attorney must possess the ability to work under minimal supervision on major matter, team or client responsibilities on issues of significant importance to the Company. PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES Performs as a specialist in environmental law, providing technical and expert legal services to Exelon Business Units Under minimal supervision, plans, conducts and supervises complex legal assignments, requiring an ability to evaluate matters that may have a major bearing on conducting the Company's business; evaluates legal and business risks and advises clients accordingly Interprets and applies organization policy according to law Represents Exelon in agency proceedings and/or relevant litigation Manages outside counsel retained to work on significant legal matters and litigation Prepares, and revises as necessary, budgets and early matter assessments for outside counsel Other projects / duties as assigned POSITION SPECIFICATIONS Minimum: * An LLB or JD from an accredited law school and be licensed to practice law in the relevant jurisdictions * At least 5-8 years of professional experience in environmental law * Possesses and applies a knowledge of environmental law to complex assignments * Federal and state air, water and waste permitting * Superfund and waste remediation compliance * Compliance counseling and EHS audits * Defense of agency enforcement actions * Requires excellent legal research, analytical abilities and on ongoing knowledge of federal or state law * Must have the ability to communicate clearly – both orally and in writing; to read and analyze legal materials and other data; to work in stressful conditions under time deadlines Preferred: * Experience as in-house counsel or working with in-house counsel * Experience with OSHA and health and safety matters * Experience with the electric generation and energy delivery industries POSITION SCOPE * Supports more senior attorneys in the ongoing management of relationships and matters with Exelon Operating Companies/Business Units and outside counsel * Demonstrates superior legal judgment in the business context * Demonstrates innovation; generates new ideas and devises original and successful solutions, programs or actions Exelon is proud to be an equal opportunity employer and employees or applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to: age, color, disability, gender, national origin, race, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, protected veteran status, or any other classification protected by federal, state, or local law.
