Assistant Engineer I

The Assistant Engineer I assists and supports Project Manager and Superintendent on assigned projects. The position works under direct supervision, performs routine daily activities and gathers and distributes information. The Assistant Engineer I must be a flexible and adaptable team-player, as well as have strong communication and client service skills.

What you'll do:

  • Setup initial contracts and project information in PMIS

  • Receive, review, forward and track status of submittals

  • Initiate, prepare, review, track and distribute RFIs

  • Assist in management of project permit process

  • Assist in preparations of bid packages and procurement

  • Update construction schedule based on project team input, Trade Contractor progress and materials delivery

  • Change management systems, including soliciting, receiving, reviewing, and preparing quotations and change orders

  • Track and inspect material deliveries

What we're looking for:

  • Computer knowledge and efficiency, including Microsoft Office products

  • Knowledge of Prolog

  • Knowledge of Suretrak or Primavera

  • Broad understanding of industry

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Basic math/accounting skills

  • Functions effectively as part of a team

  • Dependability

  • Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality at all times

  • Ability to understand and follow directions

  • Good time management skills and organizational skills

  • Ability to read drawings and specifications

In this role, you will be responsible for assisting the resident engineer with administering and managing the Systems construction contract on behalf of the Owner. The systems concerned are Traction Electrification System including Traction Power and Overhead Contact System, Train Control / Signaling, Communications and SCADA and Systems Integration. The assistant resident engineer will have the following responsibilities: * Review of and responding to contractor's submittals, non-conformance reports, requests for deviations, requests for information and all other contract correspondence * Administration and co-ordination of the owner's team's input to contract correspondence as required * Understanding of the form of construction contract employed, and its effective administration; experience in contract management is required. Training will be provided in the specific model adopted on the project. * Co-ordination and oversight of the contractor's procurement processes * Administration and co-ordination of the engineer of record's team's technical input to contract correspondence as required * Operation of the owner's internet-based document management system for all correspondence * Administration and coordination of all commercial matters related to the Contract, including production of Independent Cost Estimates for change proposals * Administration of contractor's monthly pay applications, including analysis of value earned in relation to schedule and schedule of values, and recommendations for payments to the owner * Assist with contract cost, including tracking actual costs against schedule and earned value, and scheduled cost * Reporting of contract status, progress of delivery, cost and commercial matters, and technical issues to the owner in weekly and monthly reports Job Profile Mott MacDonald is a $2bn engineering, management and development consultancy.
