Simplemost Media, part of the E.W. Scripps Company, is hiring an assistant editor to join the Simplemost and Don't Waste Your Money editorial staff. We see this as a great opportunity for a skilled, driven, digitally savvy journalist to join a fast-growing, highly motivated team.
Supports editorial staff in execution of content strategy.
Researches, writes and updates stories.
Becomes a production expert and takes on the role of building and buttoning up articles, slideshows and product reviews to ensure they meet social, search and user experience goals.
Reviews copy to ensure it meets quality and storytelling requirements.
Helps to execute and manage various editorial projects tied to internal and external partnerships.
Contributes to content optimization efforts, participates in brainstorming, topic-finding and content generation activities, and stays open to shifting responsibilities tied to brand evolution, and revenue and traffic generation.
Skills and Abilities:
Experience working on the editorial team of a news organization.
Good writing skills, with published clips to show for it.
Strong journalistic instinct and judgment.
Demonstrated understanding of digital and social platforms.
A self-starting, go-getter attitude.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Eagerness to learn and grow within your role.
Ability to be flexible and stay on top of shifting priorities and new ideas.
Familiarity with AP Style, Wordpress, CrowdTangle, Google Analytics and other digital media tools a plus.
Experience using data to inform decisions.

Position can be done remotely outside of Cincinnati, Chicago, and New York
