Assistant Editor, Pantheon (Hybrid)

Pantheon is seeking an Assistant Editor to work directly with the editorial director and editor at large on an esteemed list spanning nonfiction and fiction titles.

Pantheon was founded in 1942 by Helen and Kurt Wolff and began by publishing literature in translation. In the post-war decades, Pantheon emerged as the premiere home to major works of cultural commentary by such authors as Studs Terkel, Marguerite Duras, and Simone de Beauvoir. Today its star-studded roster of award-winning authors include Nana Kwame Adjei-Brenyah, James Gleick, Margo Jefferson, Ha Jin, Laila Lalami, Alexander McCall Smith, Yoko Ogawa, Marjane Satrapi, Ali Smith, Wole Soyinka, Art Spiegelman, Heather Ann Thompson, and Charles Yu.

Reporting to and working closely with the editorial director, as well as the editor at large, the assistant editor will provide all-around project support on their titles while also acting as a liaison between authors, agents, and different departments within the Knopf Doubleday Publishing Group.

We are looking for a detail-oriented and deadline-driven self-starter with a minimum of 2 years of editorial experience, as well as a broad reader across both nonfiction and fiction with a literary sensibility and a strong awareness of the market. Self-motivated and independent, this person will also contribute actively as part of a small and highly collaborative team.
