Job Summary: Reporting to the Executive Director, the EOF Assistant Director/ Admissions Coordinator is the primary contact between prospective students, their families, school counselors, and other individuals or organizations involved in the college selection process. Through representing the University at on- and off-campus events, this position is responsible for educating the community and educational partners about William Paterson University and the EOF Program at our institution. The Assistant Director/EOF admissions recruiter will provide comprehensive individual and group counseling (academic, financial, personal, career, leadership development, etc.) to a caseload of approximately 150 students. The Assistant Director/Admissions Coordinator will monitor student performance and progress, make referrals to appropriate support units, and develops and maintains linkages with faculty and staff. The assistant director will develop internal programs tailored to student needs, advocate for the EOF student cohort, and/or provide crisis intervention as needed.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • The Assistant Director will teach the University's Will. Power courses during the fall and spring.

  • The Assistant Director/Admission Coordinator will provide administrative assistance to enhance academic support services and is responsible for developing special projects.

  • The Assistant Director will facilitate prospective EOF First-Year students' admission process, which includes interviews, high school visits, open houses, presentations, and review of financial documentation for state eligibility.

  • Developing & maintaining professional relationships with community partners. (i.e., guidance counselors, coaches, parents/guardians) to aid in the EOF process.

  • Participates in and coordinates events and programs, including Group Advisement, Registration events, Orientation, and other cohort-focused programs to support the success of undergraduate students.

  • Serves as the lead academic interventionist to mitigate academic concerns and at-risk behaviors and provide strategies for navigating academic transition.

  • Proactive and consistent contact and outreach of prospective students through multiple mediums.

  • Organize EOF admission-related events and programs for school counselors and prospective students.

  • Input and process the students' admissions records in SLATE, updating and maintaining accurate information for departmental reports.

  • The Assistant Director gathers assessment and student progress data and conducts relevant research to conduct proactive outreach, acclimation, and retention programs.

  • Develops EOF admissions reports and evaluative data for annual reports.

  • Coordinates the EOF transfer process.

  • Assist with the coordination of the summer program component.

  • Assists with developing programs and workshops for the summer program and participates in other institutional initiatives.

  • Developing & maintaining professional relationships with community partners (i.e., guidance counselors, coaches, parents/guardians) to ensure that students know the admissions/financial aid deadlines.

  • This twelve-month grant-funded position requires an individual who can work flexible hours (selected evenings, weekends, and holidays), and statewide travel is necessary.

  • Assumes other related duties/responsibilities as delegated or assigned by the Executive Director.

Required Qualifications: Professional counseling/advising experience in higher education or similar setting (preferably in a multicultural setting and with underserved populations); ability to work in a fast-paced setting and team environment; and strong interpersonal skills and successful experience working and interacting with diverse populations of students, faculty, and staff is required. Ability to think conceptually, develop and implement policies and procedures independently, and make required administrative/procedural decisions and judgments. Demonstrated conceptualization and implementation of cohort-specific retention programs required. Excellent verbal and written communication (Spanish language skills a plus) and strong analytical skills are required.

Demonstrated successful retention outcomes and cohort management.

Preferred: EOF recruitment and admission coordination experience preferred. In-depth knowledge of financial aid criteria and documentation tracking is strongly preferred. Teaching experience preferred. Experience with Ellucian Systems and retention software such as Navigate is preferred. Knowledge of the purpose and function of state-funded opportunity programs is strongly preferred.

Education: Master's Degree required; Social Work, Higher Education Administration, Counselor Education, or Counseling-related field strongly preferred.
