Job Summary:

The Assistant Director for Victim Advocacy and Violence Prevention (VAVP) will serve as the University's expert for violence prevention and as a confidential campus advocate for students who have experienced sexual violence, intimate partner violence, stalking, or other forms of harassment. The assistant director (AD) also is responsible for educational programming for students aimed at preventing sexual assault, gender-based violence, relationship and domestic violence, as well as sexual or gender-based harassment. The AD will lead and coordinate training and professional development for faculty and staff; advocate for improvements to campus policies and services with regard to victim advocacy and violence prevention, case adjudication, and supportive measures; and maintain collaborative relationships with campus and community stakeholders to effect positive change. The AD will work directly with students who have been affected by interpersonal violence and advise students regarding options and on- and off-campus resources; assist in providing crisis response, referrals, and support to complainants involved in a formal campus grievance process; assist students with reporting to local law enforcement, obtaining protective orders, and/or securing medical services; and serve as a resource on matters concerning sexual and relationship violence with the appropriate University offices and care providers.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Victim/Survivor Advocacy

  • Provide trauma-informed advocacy for victims/survivors. The AD will assist in identifying, coordinating, and following up on services for victims /survivors of domestic/dating violence, stalking, sexual violence, and sexual or gender-based harassment and will work collaboratively with the Regis University Title IX, Equity, & Compliance office, and respective University offices and community agencies concerning services to victims/survivors. Advocacy service may extend to student victims/survivors of other crimes but the primary focus for this position will be domestic/dating violence, sexual or gender-based violence and harassment, and stalking.

  • Develop partnerships with national and local agencies and organizations to provide services for victims/survivors. Create awareness and implement cooperative initiatives to address sexual assault, relationship violence, stalking, and sexual or gender-based harassment.

  • Assess and evaluate climate with regard to sexual assault, relationship violence, stalking, and sexual or gender-based harassment; prepare and conduct surveys; analyze data; prepare reports; and make recommendations based on result.

  • Accurately track and report the university's education programs and training efforts for the purpose of demonstrating compliance with state and federal mandates such as Title IX, Clery Act, VAWA and Campus SAVE. Promote such efforts to the internal and external communities.

Prevention and Education

  • Develop and implement comprehensive plans for educating students about sexual assault and intimate partner violence, including providing trainings and workshops on healthy relationship promotion topics (e.g. setting boundaries, effective communication, and consent); and violence prevention (e.g. bystander intervention, supporting survivors, promoting helping and referral behaviors). Create, implement, and assess violence prevention programs and services.

  • Establish ongoing relationships with student organizations and specialized campus populations to coordinate programming and advise student groups engaged in violence prevention, advocacy and activism related to power-based personal violence. Hire/supervise violence prevention student staff, CHOICES Peer Educators, and third-party vendors as necessary to assist in advancing the priorities of the office. Oversee primary prevention and innovative evidence- based educational programs. Provide oversight and management for student primary prevention programs. Create and/or provide support and training to student organizations dedicated to sexual assault, dating violence, stalking, and sexual or gender-based harassment prevention.

  • Create, update, and maintain educational materials, Regis web content, and social media. Organize and develop ongoing awareness campaigns and programs about sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence, and stalking in accordance with Clery, Campus SAVE, and other pertinent regulations and requirements. Improve the awareness of, access to, and scope of victim/survivor services at Regis University. Oversee the creation and management of all social media and other marketing materials for VAVP in a manner that educates, advocates, and empowers students in reporting violence, advocating for self, and dismantling systemic practices that support a culture of sexual or gender-based/relationship violence. Ensure that marketing and social media are published with consideration and attention to community safety, University standards, and local/federal laws,

  • Coordinate and provide prevention education and professional development/training on sexual assault, stalking, relationship violence, and sexual or gender-based harassment to the Regis campus community in coordination with Regis Title IX, Equity, & Compliance including presenting for New Hire Orientation.

Policy Review & Compliance

  • Improve/create campus policies and services. Work with campus and community partners, including the Regis University Dean of Students, Title IX, Equity, & Compliance Coordinator, and Legal Counsel, to assess prevention needs, strategies, and policies. Develop a centralized, comprehensive, and culturally competent response to power-based interpersonal violence on the Regis campus.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree. Will consider a broad range of relevant specialties, such as community health, health promotion, social work, psychology, criminal justice, public health, women's studies, community health education, and/or community organizing.

  • Experience: 1-2 years demonstrated experience in the field of sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence, and stalking; primary prevention services; victim services; and/or training and technical assistance services required. Unpaid, volunteer, or intern experience in these fields may be applied to this requirement but may not replace the professional experience entirely; candidates who wish to apply these experiences should demonstrate how their experience is equivalent to professional experience. Priority will be given to those already certified/trained in victims' advocacy (minimum 30 hours combined training in DV and sexual assault response in a community agency setting).

  • Victims' Advocacy Certification (or ability to earn)

Preferred Requirements:

  • Education: Master's degree. Will consider a broad range of relevant specialties, such as community health, health promotion, social work, psychology, criminal justice, public health, women's studies, community health education, and/or organizing.

  • Experience: 3 plus years demonstrated experience in the areas listed under minimum requirements in addition to experience at the college or university level.

  • Demonstrated track record of cultural sensitivity in leadership. Creative and innovative individual and self-motivated worker who can work with minimal supervision. Ability to work with a diverse group of people and personalities and respond gracefully and respectfully in high-pressure situations.

  • Quick learner who possesses the ability to work on their own and come up with solutions to problems and/or limitations. Position also demands that the individual have the ability to determine the course of action to be taken when developing and implementing policies and procedures that involve a diverse group of people and various moral implications.

Other Position Responsibilities:

  • Serve on campus committees as needed.

  • Develop content and present as needed for professional and para-professional staff training.

Other Work Conditions:

  • While this position will typically work traditional hours 8:30am- 5pm, Monday through Friday, occasional night and evening work will be required to address programs, trainings, and events and/or response to emergency situations.
