The Assistant Director of TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) will work with the Director of TRIO SSS to develop, plan, and implement support services which result in increased academic performance, retention, and graduation rates of program participants. The assistant director provides academic advising, and teaches TRiO SSS EDGE success seminars, and coordinates activities recruitment and retention services for the program. Additionally the Assistant Director provides administrative and office support for the TRiO Student Support Services Program. Provides day-to-day support for the TRiO SSS office, including: student/staff scheduling, student records and data management, front-line problem solving and referrals for students, and assists TRiO Director with federal compliance issues. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher education.
The Assistant Director, TRiO Student Support Services assists program participants (low income, first generation, and/or disabled) to succeed in college by helping them determine appropriate academic goals and select academic schedules appropriate for their stated academic goals. The Assistant Director, TRiO Student Support Services guides pre-majors in the selection of academic majors and directs students to resources within the University that provide assistance in identifying academic majors and career choices, as appropriate. The Assistant Director, TRiO Student Support Services manages TRiO - Student Support Services programs relating to career guidance, graduate school motivation, test preparation, disabled student issues, student leadership, tutoring, and study skills.
Current Salary: $63,000; non-negotiable
Duties & Responsibilities
Project Management
Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the project related to delivery of services including recruitment of participants and compliance with policies and procedures.
Monitor, evaluate, and supervise services provided by the program coordinator overseeing tutor services, graduate, and undergraduate student employees.
Assist in meeting the yearly program objectives on academic performance, persistence, retention, and graduation.
Assist in maintaining federal compliance and regulations as outlined by the grant, US Department of Education, and the University.
Coordinates logistics for TRiO SSS Parent and Student Orientations including invitations, meal planning, room reservations, media requirements, supplies and attendee responses.
Contributes to the overall success of the program and the University by performing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Teaching
Design and teach the EDGE program courses annually to assist participants to develop and improve college readiness.
Evaluate course content and learning objectives.
Student Support
Serve as an academic coach for participants in the program.
Counsel and coach participants providing academic and career development, personal issues, financial aid and graduate school admittance.
Campus Collaboration
Maintain appropriate communication with University departments and serve as liaison to the University, community, and public regarding the TRiO SSS program and services offered.
Promote campus and community programs that benefit participants and similar populations.
Duties and Responsibilities:

Serves as a liaison between the TRiO office and staff working closely with the Director.
Enters and monitors student data in TRiO SSS databases/spreadsheets to track program progress toward federal objectives. Assists with designing tracking forms, generating and preparing reports (including Annual Performance Report), and overseeing student contact data.
Coordinates logistics for TRiO seminars including scheduling rooms and promotion.
Assists Director with formulating, proofing and revising various kinds of correspondence and reports, including letters, announcements, student outreach and other mailings.
Prepares requisitions for supplies, buses, travel, reimbursements and facilities requests, frequently communicating with outside vendors and other SPU departments (such as Fiscal Affairs, Human Resources, Facilities, Academic Affairs, etc).
Prepares, maintains and oversees student files and records.
Places reminder calls to students regarding appointments and TRiO activities.
Provides appropriate and positive academic skills for program participants by developing, creating, and organizing workshops.
Assists program participants in establishing appropriate academic and personal goals through an inclusion of academic coaching and counseling and encourage the development of program participant study skills.
Facilitates personal and academic development of program participants by encouraging involvement in cultural and leadership activities both on and off campus.
Manages the Graduate School Program Outreach by encouraging program participants to seek out graduate programs of interest and providing assistance in preparing for taking graduate entrance exams (GRE, LSAT, and GMAT).
Supports the TRiO SSS program by assisting in the planning and execution of Summer Academy, and facilitating workshops as assigned.
Qualification Standards
Preferred experience with Federal TRiO Programs.
Minimum of three years of professional experience administering programs serving academically under-prepared students.
Excellent written communication skills as evidenced by application materials.
Knowledge of theories and practices for college student development and identity formation, group development and dynamics;
Education
Master's Degree in human development, counseling, psychology, education, social welfare, student affairs, or related field of study.
Physical Demands Experience
Minimum of three years of professional experience administering programs serving academically under-prepared students.
Excellent written communication skills as evidenced by application materials.
Knowledge of theories and practices for college student development and identity formation, group development and dynamics;
Experience conducting programs and workshops; Demonstrated commitment to diversity education and inclusion.
Additionally, must have experience working with disadvantaged students, students from underrepresented populations, and/or students with disabilities.
Experience overcoming barriers similar to those confronting the target population.

Some evening and weekend work will be required. The Assistant Director of TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) will report to the Director of TRIO SSS
