The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is seeking an ASSISTANT DIRECTOR-TECHNICAL-ALYS STEPHENS CENTER. Reporting to the Technical Director for UAB Arts, the Assistant Technical Director serves as second in command and is considered a crucial element in executing live performances and events. The Tech Team is considered a central department to UAB Arts that provides services to the programming departments of the organization: the Alys Stephens Center (performing arts), Abroms-Engel Institute of Visual Art (contemporary museum), Arts in Medicine (the application of arts to promote mental health and physical well-being), and ArtPlay (art education and community outreach, as well as residential partners- The Alabama Symphony Orchestra, UAB's Departments of Music Theatre, and rental clients. The Assistant Technical Director is responsible for providing direct assistance to the TD in the management and execution of all technical production deliverables throughout scope and design, budgeting, pre-production, on-site, and post-production stages of an event. In the absence of the TD, the Assistant Technical Director is expected to lead and make intricate decisions under the guidance and director of the TD. The ideal candidate will be interested in a career in events-production. The candidate should also be comfortable dealing directly with a diverse clientele and working in a fast-paced environment. Candidates must be able to multitask, meet deadlines, be able to quickly adjust/ pivot to the changes/ needs of the client or artist, as well as have excellent verbal and written skills to liaise clearly, effectively, and confidently with clients/ agencies/ artists.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
(Annual Salary: $35,570 - $57,800)
Bachelor's degree in Theatre Designs, Technology, Theatre Productions, Entertainment Industry, Music, or a related field and three (3) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. Currently certified as OSHA 10 hour General Industry preferred.
Hard Skills: Advanced skills and knowledge of all technical production discipline, tech software, equipment, safety precautions, capable of lifting 50 lbs. and sustaining physical activity, support management.
Soft skills: Maintaining position relationships, organizational skills, detailed oriented, multi-task, team work, professional, solution driven, self-starter. Dante, OSHA 10/ General Entertainment Safety Training.
