Position: Assistant Director, Team Security

Reports to: Security

Department: Security Operations

FLSA: Seasonal, Full-Time, Exempt

Summary:

The Assistant Director, Team Security will be responsible for directing and implementing all aspects of the safety and security programs of the Sacramento Kings NBA basketball team. This position will report to the Director, Team Security.

Key Responsibilities Area (KRA's):

  • Responsible for the management and oversight of the team security operations, for the Sacramento Kings NBA basketball team.

  • Travel with the team and provide security services for the players, coaches, and staff, as necessary.

  • Significant domestic and some international travel is required.

  • While traveling with the team, coordinate with each venue, airport, and hotel security personnel to ensure team safety and security.

  • Develop relationships and share ideas with other NBA team security personnel.

  • Primary focus is to provide proactive/preventive security measures and contingency planning. Assuring security is properly integrated into the overall planning process for all home and away games, player appearances, and other special events.

  • Continuously pursue, develop, and implement best practices standards.

  • Oversee implementation of NBA Team Security Standards.

  • Develop good working relationships with NBA league security personnel and communicate all security-related matters in a timely fashion.

  • Create and conduct NBA player orientation and team-level security awareness training, including personal safety best practices for team players, coaches, and staff.

  • During games, monitor activity between the players and fans near the bench. Ensure fans don't interfere with players, coaches, and staff on the bench and the floor.

  • Conduct investigations of incidents during games, involving NBA/NBADL players, staff, and others as necessary and directed.

  • Serve as a liaison with local, state, federal, and international law enforcement and national security agencies. Assist players, coaches, and staff with issues involving interaction with law enforcement and regulatory agencies, as directed.

  • Assist players, coaches, and staff with residential security surveys and make recommendations, as directed.

  • Immediately report all unusual incidents involving players, coaches, and staff to the Vice President, Security Operations, and other organization executives, as necessary.

  • Coordinate with the Director of Team Security, VP Security Operations, and arena security personnel to provide appropriate team security measures during home games.

Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills with an emphasis on being able to prepare clear, comprehensive, and meaningful reports and presentations for team and NBA Senior Management relating to security matters.

  • Significant demonstrated experience in personal protection is required.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency with various computer applications.

  • Self-starter with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work cohesively as part of a team effort.

  • Strong background and experience in the area of emergency planning/business continuity.

  • Ability to effectively provide close supervision, guidance, and structure to staff when needed.

  • Ability to successfully navigate between business/basketball and security environments and needs.

  • Ability to make critical decisions in stressful and emergency situations involving potential injury to yourself and others.

  • Demonstrated ability to be discreet and provide advice about sensitive personal and organizational matters.

Experience Needed:

  • Minimum of 10 years of law enforcement and/or high-level security-related experience.

  • Prior experience with security and special event planning, threat assessment/risk analysis, and a thorough grasp of crowd control/management strategies.

  • Supervisory/management experience in previous positions is desirable.

  • Demonstrated success in conducting complex law enforcement investigations and operations is preferred.

Educational Background Required:

  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

  • Formal education, training, or certifications in law enforcement, personal protection, defensive measures, control tactics, and security systems is preferred.

Compensation:

The offer range for this seasonal, full-time, exempt role is $70,000 - $80,000. Final offers for this role will be made within the parameters of the salary range provided. Years of experience, skills, and other factors are considered when determining the salary offered. Total compensation & offer package will include the following:
