Job Description:

The Assistant Director, Student Affairs will manage a comprehensive lakefront recreation program at Lake Wauburg North & South for the Department of Recreational Sports (RecSports). This position focuses on supervising the UF Outdoor Team Challenge Course (UFOTCC), Alpine Tower, Carolina Climbing Wall and related programming; and oversees all Auxiliary functions.

Specific duties include:

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of a comprehensive outdoor challenge course program; manage facility request, reservations and rentals; and oversee special events

  • Oversee the hiring, training, scheduling, supervising, coaching and evaluation processes for Lake Wauburg staff

  • Develop new special events and programs promoting the UFOTCC and Lake Wauburg; administer instructional services and programs; host outside certifications and provide in-house training programs for UFOTCC facilitators; assist with managing the Lake Wauburg budget

  • Coordinate all aspects of risk management, maintenance and preventative maintenance procedure and plans, assessment and documentation for UFOTCC

Expected Salary:

Commensurate with education and experience

Minimum Requirements:

Master's degree in appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience or a bachelor's degree in appropriate areas of specialization and four years of experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree

  • Two years of challenge course operations management and program facilitation

  • Knowledge of static belay traversing, dynamic belay traversing and dynamic belayed vertical

  • Understand operational systems for low and high challenge courses and climbing walls

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, to think laterally and to undertake initiatives

  • Ability to effectively supervise; and is self-motivated, adaptable, a great team player and customer focused

  • Challenge Course Manager Certification and CPR/First Aid/AED certification

The duties include assisting students with finding off-campus housing, providing educational resources and programs to assist students with their transition, maintaining resources to help students find off-campus housing and assisting students to understand their roles and responsibilities as a community member. The incumbent serves as a student advocate on issues, concerns, and problems related to students living off-campus and "town and gown" issues that result from students living in the community. In addition, this position shares in the implementation of department policy, maintains relationships with various offices, departments, and community agencies; serves on university, division, department, and City of Gainesville committees and boards; and interprets University policy to students, students groups, faculty, staff, parents, city offices, law enforcement agencies, community members, and the public. * Create program plans with learning outcomes that meet the mission and goals of Off Campus Life including facilitating weekly events and outreach including: event planning, securing event locations, creating social media marketing plan, maintaining attendance lists, assisting with events, creating learning outcomes, monthly goal setting, strategic planning and assessment. * Provide resources, services, support and outreach to special student populations including graduate students, postdoc students, Innovation Academy students, transfer students, UF Online students, PaCE students, first generation college students, international students, veterans, faculty and staff. * Create and execute social media and communication plan to educate students on various topics that impact students living off-campus including: housing search, safety, roommate relationships, neighbor relations, city codes & state statutes, transportation, fun things to do in Gainesville and community involvement. Create, revise and edit office print and digital materials including, but not limited to: press releases, event descriptions, Gator Guide to Off Campus Life (OCL's annual magazine-style publication), social media content, Gator Times submissions, website content and annual report. * Advise the Off Campus Ambassadors, Off Campus Life's sponsored student organization. * Provide one on one meetings with and respond to walk-in, phone call, and email questions from students, family members, faculty, staff, citizens, community members, UF and city offices and assist with tracking office outreach and contacts. Develop and maintain working relationships with internal and external stakeholders including UF departments on campus, City of Gainesville offices, local apartment property managers and landlords and serve on various University of Florida committees and City of Gainesville boards to represent Off Campus Life, UF and students living off-campus.
