The Assistant Director Revenue Cycle is responsible for directing and coordinating the overall functions of revenue cycle activity, ensuring maximization of cash flow while improving patient, physician and customer relations. Including analysis of revenue cycle data to assure carrier performance and recommend change and accountability for all billing functions. The Assistant Director participates in carrier credentialing and serves as a liaison to the CBO and IPA; report variances against the department budget; and work to establish a review for carrier performance. This individual may function as liaison between patient and other Mount Sinai departments (Hospital or FPA) in management of patient billing inquiries. This individual may supervise and train all staff including ongoing education and development to meet the changing needs of the carrier environment.

Responsibilities

1.Utilizes data and fact-based problem-solving techniques to improve processes and outcomes.

2.Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional affiliations; maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, benchmarking state-of-the-art practices, participating in professional societies. Maintains knowledge of and complies with established policies and procedures including government, insurance and third-party payer regulations.

3.Plans and directs registration, patient insurance, billing/collections and data processing to ensure accurate patient billing and efficient account collection.

4.May oversee provider credentialing process with payors; interfaces with IPA, medical staff and faculty, to ensure credentialing is completed in a timely manner.

5.Manages practice/department within the established budget, including annual planning, and develops monthly status reports.

6.Supervises and trains all revenue cycle billing staff

7.Serves as operational liaison between CBO team and third party vendors.

8.Establishes and implements a system for the collection of delinquent accounts, ensuring third-party payors are contacted.

9.Attends administrative meetings and participates in related committees.



  1. Establishes and recommends credit and collection policies. Makes recommendations for improvement.

  2. Solves difficult payment and associated Mount Sinai practices or network problems (whether Hospital or FPA based). Audits problem accounts and takes appropriate action to achieve amicable outcome between patient and the Medical Center.

  3. May meet with new patients and caregivers in assigned department(s) to orient them to billing processes and expectations.

  4. Reviews operative reports and pathology to recommend correct coding and submission

  5. Develops and implements new procedures to improve the quality and quantity of work processed. Ensure policies are communicated and administered consistently.

  6. Develops and oversees business systems and works with Information Technology to ensure timely and accurate implementation.

  7. Initiates and answers pertinent correspondence. Prepares operational and financial reports and analysis, noting progress as well as adverse trends. Makes appropriate recommendations or conclusions. Maintains required records and files.

  8. Monitors daily operating activities of assigned department and makes suggestions necessary for improved workflow and efficiency.

  9. Attends administrative meetings and participates in committees as requested. Conducts special projects and studies, as directed.

  10. Acts as liaison with all levels of administration and faculty in the coordination of operational activities to achieve directives and facilitate problem resolution.

  11. Maintains confidentiality as regards to patients accounts status.

  12. Assists in the planning of short and long-range goals for the department, unit or division. Prepares and evaluates proposals to implement new programs and expand existing ones.


Qualifications

Education Requirements

Baccalaureate degree in business administration or related field.

Masters Degree in business or related field preferred.

Experience Requirements

Certified Professional Coder credentials preferred.

7 + years Revenue Cycle experience preferred.
