East Stroudsburg University is hiring an Assistant Director of Residential Life, Housing, & Dining (RLHD)! Located in the beautiful Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania, ESU's proximity to New York City and Philadelphia provides convenient access to internships, careers and social activities. Just minutes from campus are the country's largest water parks, scenic Delaware Water Gap Recreation Area, Appalachian Trail, and other opportunities for recreational fun.

As the Assistant Director, you will need to think creatively and be comfortable implementing strategies to successfully achieve department goals. You will be an active member of the Campus Life & Inclusive Excellence team and will work closely with the Director to coordinate and administer all aspects of the housing process during the full academic year. You will thrive in this role if you like utilizing your higher education residential life experience and organizational skills, all while innovating the residential area to improve student success. To be successful in this role, you must possess strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills, demonstrate proactiveness, have effective communication, a growth mindset, and the ability to pivot skillfully between tasks.

Your normal hours will be Monday to Friday 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM but, you may have to flex your schedule from time to time based on the needs of the business to be a true Assistant Director. This role does include on call rotation and some evening or weekend work required. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate with travel as needed for the position. When our team shows up for work, they are energized and motivated to succeed - all while being the most crucial piece to keeping the ESU operations humming.

What Will I Do At ESU? (AKA Essential Duties)

  • Coordinate, communicate, and administer all aspects of the housing application and room assignment processes during all academic terms for ESU operated residential facilities. This includes entering room assignments; preparing weekly occupancy and census reports; maintaining integrity of all data in room assignments and occupancy management databases/software; accurate billing and account charges, incoming student assignments; room changes and correspondences; returning student room selection; wait list assignments; room cancellations; early arrivals, extended stay, and break housing requests and assignments, etc.

  • Trains staff on StarRez, housing software; creates a training manual for employees to reference.

  • Serve as primary contact for enrollment management, admissions, student financial services, athletics, and international student services regarding housing/dining issues or concerns.

  • Act as first point of contact for parents; respond and address any incoming phone calls, walk-in traffic and e-mail messages via the Housing email account.

  • Provide support during large-scale events (move-in, orientation, department/division wide events, Fab Fridays, Open House, Late Night Breakfast, Homecoming, etc.); may present at these events.

  • Recruit, train, hire, supervise, and schedule student workers.

  • Collaborate with camps and conference services on the planning and execution of camp/conference housing and dining logistics; both pre-camp/conference and onsite; maintain accurate expense and billing records for camps/conference; create, track and send invoices for participants and assigned camps/conferences.

  • Coordinate and administer student communications regarding upcoming processes, training; establish a communication timeline to ensure timely announcements; responsible for the department website.

  • Work with OASIS/CAPS, athletics, and international student services to determine students' housing needs.

  • Partner with admissions and student financial services staff to verify deposits and completed applications for freshman and non-registered students.

  • Utilize quantitative/qualitative assessment to produce positive change and quality service to students.

  • Capture feedback from residents about assignments, or community success/issues/concerns; provide semi-annual report on outcomes.

  • Serve as member of the On-Call rotation.

  • Assist the Director in the establishment and implementation of administrative policies, programs, and procedures within departmental guidelines as needed.

  • Assist the Director on Guardian cases as needed.

  • Assist the Coordinator as needed on move in/out days.

  • Perform related work as required.

What We're Looking For (AKA Qualifications)

  • Masters degree in Higher Education Administration, College Student Development, Facilities Management, Project Management or related field is required.

  • At least 3-5 years of full-time hands-on work experience with direct experience overseeing a residential assignment.

  • Technical skills - Advanced proficiency in Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Teams. Experience with Banner. StarRez preferred.

  • Meticulous detail orientation; extremely organized; able to accurately prioritize tasks.

  • Collaboration: Exchanging information, ideas, thoughts and feelings thoughtfully with others in a manner that is proactive and enhances partnerships

  • Communication: Able to communicate and effectively present information in small and large group situations, as well as one-to-one situations with students, parents, visitors, faculty and other employees of the organization. Possess excellent public speaking skills and ability to project a positive image for ESU. Able to read, write, and comprehend English, simple and complex instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Strong empathetic listening skills.
