Responsible for the supervision of the buying team with specific commodities and customer responsibilities, creates and implements general university contracts and agreements that enhance efficiencies for the university community. Handle large and technical procurements for purchases of materials, supplies, equipment and services. Approves purchases and contracts to the maximum levels allowed by Board of Regents Policy.

Required Education: Bachelor Degree or equivalent combination of education/job related experience, AND:

  • 3 years of purchasing, staff management and supervisory experience

Skills:

  • Extensively skilled in contract review and negotiations

  • Advanced procurement and contract administration skills

  • Highly organized and able to handle multiple projects and deadlines

  • Advanced computer skills with wide knowledge of business software

  • Detail oriented for accuracy of data and information

  • Must be able to supervise staff and communicate directions and expectations effectively

  • Must be able to create and deliver effective training presentations

  • Must have advanced/proficient/writing skills for composing audits, reports and advisories

Certifications:

  • CPO (certified procurement officer) or CPSM (certified professional in supply management) preferred

Advertised Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to engage in repetitive motion and communicate effectively.

Departmental Preferences:

  • 4-5 years purchasing experience

  • Master's degree in business administration, accounting, supply chain management or related field

  • Experience with PeopleSoft, Jaggaer and/or other University financial systems preferred

  • Experienced in compliance with State and Federal guidelines and procedures

  • Extensive knowledge and experience with buying computer and IT products and software preferred

Supervision: Supervisor - Primary Role
