Job Summary

Reporting to the Assistant Dean/CRDO, the Associate Director, Research Development is tasked with complex project management, supporting strategic research planning, project management for complex proposal support, and identifying and collecting research development operations data/metrics to support the pursuit of large-scale grant proposal projects and collaborations that align with CoE' research priorities. This position focuses on milestone delivery across strategic projects and facilitates communication across related projects and impacted stakeholders to keep proposals and the overall strategic research initiatives portfolio on track. With a particular eye for coordinating project management functions that build CoE's research infrastructure, the incumbent will provide critical support to enable better administrative decision-making and more competitive large-scale grant proposals and strategic collaborations.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree with a preferred focus in complex project management, public administration, business, or a related field

  • Four (4) years of experience of complex project management experience

  • Knowledge of the varied responsibilities of a Project Manager working on complex projects and with large, multi-institutional teams

  • An equivalent combination of experience and education will be considered

  • Experience in using appropriate project management tools and techniques, particularly related to team science

  • Experience with resource allocation and setting deliverable expectations and proven management skills to meeting critical deadlines

  • Eagerness to contribute to building a new Research Development team, and to create processes and administrative structures that endure and sustain

  • Comfort in an entrepreneurial, risk-taking, and "start-up" environment without immediately defined roles and boundaries.

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with a number of stakeholders, including executive leadership, government employees and federal civil servants, vendors, and external partners.

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

  • Committed interest to learning more about complex, interdisciplinary research and the associated funding landscape. Though proficiency in technical research methods and concepts is not mandatory, an eagerness to learn and engage is unequivocally is essential for success.

  • Excellent communication (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills

  • Outstanding organizational and project management skills.

  • Experience in using appropriate project management tools, software, processes, and techniques. Experience with resource allocation and setting deliverable expectations and proven management skills to meeting critical deadlines

  • Ability to administrate and coordinate research and reporting programs, identifying and resolving any issues.

  • Ability liaise and maintain cooperative working relationships with other public and private agencies and institutions of higher education.

  • Ability to direct the activities for the monitoring, review, audit, and evaluation of program performance and services.

  • Ability to direct cost studies and other research, analysis, and study programs necessary to evaluate operation activities

  • Ability to prepare and direct the preparation of correspondence, statistical reports, program reviews and evaluations.

  • Advanced knowledge of office productivity software including MS Office (specifically Excel), data retrieval (e.g., Oracle, Access, or other database management software), report preparation (e.g., Excel pivot tables or comparable experience), and Adobe Acrobat.

  • High level of discretion and good judgment, ability to take initiative, integrity, trustworthiness, diplomacy, respect, and team collaboration.

  • Flexibility, collegiality, and an overall eagerness to move projects forward within a start-up and risk-taking team environment.

  • Ability to multitask and respond professionally in challenging situations are essential

  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends, as determined by project deadlines and in discussion with the Asst Dean/CRDO.

Preferred:

  • Master's/Professional degree

  • Experience working in a higher education setting

  • Experience with or background in team science

  • Experience forecasting and managing project staffing
