Job Summary

The Assistant Director, Outreach and Consultation has three overarching areas of responsibility. The first is responsibility to provide vision for, ongoing administration of, and leadership in the area of Outreach and Consultation. This includes all CAPS' activities that relate to community engagement, prevention and intervention at a system/community level. The second is responsibility for administrative supervision and oversight for a subgroup of CAPS' therapists. This includes serving as a core member of the agency's Leadership Team. The third general area of responsibility is to provide services to students, certainly in the realm of Clinical Services, also in Outreach and Consultation, and via the provision of clinical supervision (to trainees or unlicensed staff), if/as needed.


  • Master's degree (MA/MS or MSW) from an accredited program, licensed as a LCSW or LMHC

  • Four years of experience as a generalist therapist

  • Doctoral psychology internship may be considered in lieu of one year of experience

  • Must be certified or licensed, or immediately license eligible, in the State of Indiana

  • Experience in outreach and consultation

  • Strong general therapy skills with clear interest and experience in the college population, as well as experience and skill in a variety of clinical service modalities

  • Demonstrated interest and experience in issues of diversity, social justice and advocacy

  • Knowledge of, and adherence to, ethical, legal and professional standards of practice

  • Independent judgement and discretion are essential in all aspects of this job

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Ability to function well as part of a collaborative team

  • Strong organizational, planning, and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to provide positive leadership and administrative leadership

  • Ability to relate well to students, staff colleagues in other departments, faculty, and other members of the University community


  • Doctorate (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) in Counseling or Clinical Psychology from an APA-approved program, with successful completion of a one year doctoral internship, preferably from an APA-approved internship program

  • Experience in all facets of work as a counseling center mental health professional

  • Clinical experience in a university counseling center with young adults

  • progressive responsibilities accrued during four year period
