Position Description

  • Teach or co-teach one undergraduate Computer Science course per semester.

  • Serve as co-instructor on record for the CS individual research/reading course (CS 91r).

  • Serve as a first point of contact for students in the CS concentration. Connect students to faculty with similar interests.

  • Join and help lead the Computer Science Undergraduate Advising team with faculty and staff, which provides academic advising and mentorship to admitted Harvard students, pre-concentrators, and concentrators.

Additional duties and responsibilities may include the following:

  • Potential research opportunities such as supervision of undergraduate projects.

  • Assist with mentorship of relevant computer science clubs, including Women in Computer Science (WiCS), the Harvard Computing Society (HCS), the AI Safety Student Team (AISST), and others.

  • Assist with curriculum and course development, course planning, curriculum assessment, and new pedagogical methods.

  • Perform administrative management of the relevant concentration and tracks, including updating literature, curriculum documentation, study plan forms, and websites.

  • Participating in departmental committees such as the Curriculum Committee.

  • In coordination with relevant offices at SEAS and Harvard College, support current students in their pursuit of undergraduate research opportunities, internships, and full-time post-graduate positions after graduation.

Job Summary

The Harvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS) seeks qualified candidates for the position of Assistant Director of Undergraduate Studies (ADUS) in Computer Science (CS) with a concurrent non-paid dependent lectureship in Computer Science. The ADUS will report to the CS Area Chair and administratively to the Dean of Academic Programs. The ADUS will work closely with the CS Directors (DUSes) and Assistant Director of Undergraduate Studies, as well as with the ADUS and DUS from other areas at SEAS.
