SUMMARY OF JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Assistant Director of the Truck Driving Academy will plan, develop, and conduct all activities related to the recruitment, enrollment, and success LIT's Professional Truck Driving Academy. Work involves planning, designing, organizing, conducting, and evaluating educational and training needs of this program and industry. Must be able to analyze industry present and future needs and be able to develop and prepare training programs to meet these needs. May plan, assign, and/or supervise the work of others. Works under minimal supervision with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Day/night training will be required. This position reports directly to the Executive Director of Workforce. This is an exempt position.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plans, develops, and maintain course curriculum to meet industry needs and to comply with all relevant rules and regulations of the commercial trucking industry.

  • Conducts practical training consisting of primarily range and street training for Class A, Class B, Refresher Course and customized training as needed.

  • Schedules and coordinates all components of the Commercial Truck Driver program.

  • Implement both classroom and practical training and evaluations for Class A and Class B operators.

  • Recruits, advertises, and promotes the professional truck driving academy program

  • Reviews, verifies, and processes student's application to ensure minimal program requirements compliance.

  • Required to complete CDL 3rd Party Testing Examiner certification within 6 months of employment.

  • Requests and/or verifies motor vehicle registration history and Department of Transportation physical and drug screen prior enrollment.

  • Coordinates student's application process with state agencies, including area Texas Workforce Centers, Department of Assistance & Rehabilitative Services, etc.

  • Help to provide and maintain adequate facilities, equipment, and materials used for training

  • Coordinates any off-site or customized training for any contracted agency, business or industry

  • Maintains accurate and confidential student/class records

  • Maintains accurate maintenance and inspection records on training vehicles and equipment

  • Meets with lead instructor on daily basis to discuss training activities

  • Conducts program instructor's performance evaluations

  • Assists graduating students with job placement

  • Maintains good working relationships with business and industry advisory council

  • Visits business and industries to design customize training

  • Meet with lead instructor on daily basis to discuss training activities

  • Conduct both day and night truck driving training activities

  • Coordinates advisory council meetings as necessary

  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • Must keep current on knowledge of and compliance with the most current rules and regulations of Federal Motor carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSR)s

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Education/Qualifications Required:

  • Associate degree; must also possess class "A" CDL and at least a tank endorsement
  • 5 Years commercial driving experience; or a combination of 10 years driving/training experience. Must have a good driving record

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Education/Qualifications:

  • Experience with operation of tractor-van trailer and bulk tanker desired
