Position Summary and Responsibilities

Vassar College Counseling Service invites applications for the position of Assistant Director of Training. The successful candidate will demonstrate knowledge, sensitivity and ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds and will provide leadership in the development and management of our training program for emerging counseling professionals which includes post-doctoral fellows, post-MSW fellows, and interns in social work and mental health counseling. This vital role contributes to our mission of delivering innovative, creative, collaborative clinical services within a small, residential liberal arts college environment. This is a full-time, 10-month (August 15 - June 15), benefit eligible position.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct intake and clinical assessments, crisis interventions, and triage.

  • Deliver brief individual psychotherapy and group therapy.

  • Provide visionary leadership in the development and oversight of the training program. Facilitate professional development training for in-house and collaborative health and advocacy services.

  • Provide clinical supervision to post-doctoral fellows, MSW fellows, interns, and/or new staff as needed.

  • Assist with coordinating departmental and emergency crisis response and management for the campus community.

  • Participate in on-call rotations, providing backup to our off-site service and sharing crisis coverage duties with the Director and Associate Director.

  • Foster professional relationships within the campus and broader community to offer mental health consultation and contribute to wellness through campus committee work.

  • Contribute to build and maintain partnerships with graduate programs and manage the recruitment of training staff.

  • Support department training supervisors to ensure a high-quality training experience.

  • Some evening and weekend hours should be expected, particularly for crisis intervention, backup on-call coverage, and outreach activities.

Qualifications

Required

  • A doctorate in clinical or counseling psychology (PhD, PsyD, EdD) from an APA-approved program or a clinical social worker (LCSW or DSW).

  • Licensure in New York State or licensed in another state with the ability to transfer upon hire.

  • Strong commitment to equity, inclusion, and the celebration of diversity and multiculturalism.

  • Broad clinical skills with proficiency in assessing and intervening across a spectrum of disorders and issues.

  • Minimum of two years' experience in clinical supervision.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in collaborative care teams.

Preferred

  • Experience with brief therapy and group facilitation in a college/university counseling setting.

  • Expertise in multicultural considerations and experience with historically underrepresented groups, LGBTQIA+, and BIPOC populations.

  • Specialization in trauma and/or substance abuse.

Compensation

The starting annual base salary range for this 10-month position is $55,850-$86,400 (USD).
