Position Description

The Assistant Director of the Flex JD Program provides administrative leadership for the law school's Flex JD Program. The Assistant Director reports to the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs in the School of Law.

Essential Job Functions

  • In collaboration with the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, the Assistant Director manages the Flex JD program in the School of Law. The School of Law Flex JD program offers students an opportunity to pursue a JD degree in a part-time hybrid-online format involving intensive in-person weekend courses, weekly synchronous online classes, and asynchronous coursework.

  • In collaboration with the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs and Associate Dean for Student Affairs review, evaluate and update policies and procedures related to the administration of the Flex JD program.

  • In collaboration with the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs support the onboarding of faculty teaching in the hybrid format.

  • Support the Vice Dean in Forecasting and tracking hybrid model course offerings in relation to faculty availability, sequencing of courses, and patterns of student interest.

  • Develop and implement a schedule for regular review and updates of courses taught in the hybrid model.

  • Serve as the primary liaison to the Center for Digital Learning and Innovation (CDLI) in relation to coordinating instructional design support for faculty when designing and teaching hybrid and online courses.

  • Facilitate quarterly Flex JD steering committee planning meetings with key law school administrators to develop and track long-term performance goals and provide regular assessment of those goals.

  • Annually compile, track and report data related to the Flex JD program operations and student academic progress for the purposes of required ABA reporting and to evaluate and identify strategic opportunities and areas of growth.

  • In collaboration with Marketing and Communications staff, develop, implement, and evaluate the strategic plan for marketing the Flex JD program.

  • In collaboration with Admission staff attend cultivation events, meet with prospective students to promote the Flex JD program, and support the review and evaluation of Flex JD applications.

  • Design and implement the orientation and on-boarding programs for Flex JD students in consultation with the Associate Dean for Student Affairs and in reference to the broader JD orientation programing.

  • Coordinate and implement non-academic components of the five annual on-campus weekend intensive course sessions.

  • Serve as the primary staff liaison to Flex JD students, conduct academic and non-academic advising for Flex JD students, and provide appropriate referrals to law school and campus services to support student needs.

  • Partner with the Center for Professional Development (career services) staff to provide career counseling and placement service opportunities for Flex JD students.

  • Partner with the Academic Resource Center staff to provide academic skills support and bar preparation opportunities for Flex JD students.

  • In partnership with the Associate Dean for Finance and Administration, track expenditures related to Flex JD program operations such as catering costs, recruitment materials, and special events.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and two years of progressively responsible work in higher education administration, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of this role.

  • Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal, with an ability to be an active listener and resource to students.

  • Organize and manage multiple priorities and projects concurrently and to communicate effectively with faculty, staff, and students.

  • Ability to work within a team, as an individual and team member.

  • The ability to work with diverse and at times stressed students.

  • Knowledge of higher education policies and regulations.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products particularly Word, Excel and Access, as well as Canvas and Zoom.

  • Experience in content management, communications, or copywriting is preferred.

  • Experience working with students in an academic environment is preferred.

Compensation at a Glance:

Salary Range: $63,000 - $70,000

Seattle University has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, and not based on a candidate's gender or any other protected status.

Hybrid Eligible*

This position may be eligible for a hybrid schedule after successful completion of an introductory work period of 3-6 months. This may mean that a hybrid eligible role will begin on-campus initially and then will transition to hybrid format following onboarding and training. Flexible work plans are subject to periodic review and may be changed or terminated at any time for any reason at the university's discretion.
