Working Title Assistant Director of Study Abroad Brief Summary of Job Description
| Responsible for promoting and facilitating study abroad opportunities to UNK students, including advising students and supporting faculty who lead study abroad trips, and planning and implementing promotion and outreach activities. Participate as an active member of the Study Abroad Office to accomplish the overall mission of facilitating experiential and academic travel outside of the US for UNK students and representing UNK and the Study Abroad Office in internal and external meetings.
Job Duties
| Manage study abroad and promote and support existing programs; facilitate relations with faculty directors and group leaders and vendor contracts; serve as the Study Abroad Advisor for study abroad opportunities at UNK; coordinate with faculty and staff across campus to enhance experiential learning opportunities; work with external or NU system-wide offices to identify and develop new sources of funding and scholarship support for UNK to study abroad; work closely with the Office of Financial Aid in coordinating assistance for student travel.
Manage the recruitment, selection, orientation and re-entry of study abroad students; serve as primary campus advisor for study abroad opportunities; advise students, faculty, staff and parents on study abroad programs and options and UNK´s administrative policies and procedures related to study abroad; guide students through (online/paper) applications, acceptance, registration for classes, orientations and evaluation processes; support and communicate with students currently studying abroad, and their parents, as appropriate
| Manage web-based information associated with study abroad, including scholarship and financial aid information and procedures related to travel insurance; edit and maintain website and Via platform; supervise student billing for study abroad programs; administer budgets; maintain and share accurate study abroad databases; identify, develop and design new study abroad opportunities; provide Open Door and similar statistics on UNK study abroad participation; plan and lead events for promoting annual study abroad opportunities and pilot programs; maintain appropriate handbooks, forms, waivers and web-based information associated with study abroad; represent UNK at university-wide events; manage partnership programs so as to maintain consistency and sustainability.
Required Qualifications
BA or MA in a field related to International Education; at least two years relevant experience/experience in academic environment.
Experience studying or living abroad.
Knowledge of study abroad procedures and international travel regulations; cultural sensitivity; ability to solve problems of managerial and/or cultural complexity; ability to interact with other campus departments involved in study abroad
Familiarity with academic course planning and integration of study abroad programs; supervise staff assistants when appropriate.
Experience drafting, processing and nurturing of bi-lateral institutional agreements to grow study abroad programs.
Resolve problems with program implementation or function, communication, or processes.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of recent trends and current conversations in the field of International Education and the role it plays.
Fluency with current social media platforms, study abroad websites and online tools, and implementation.
Analyze programs and vendors to facilitate opportunities; proficiency with SMS systems such as PeopleSoft and Via; survey programs such as Qualtrics; and contract software DocuSign.
Thorough knowledge of study abroad programs offered at UNK and the process of applying for, financing and attending them.
