About the Opportunity

Kalamazoo Valley is seeking an Assistant Director of Student Retention and Completion whose primary responsibility is to support the instructional mission of the institution and to promote positive student and customer relations. The individual in this position will also provide leadership, and strategic direction for retention and completion efforts, along with customer relation management processes.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan, direct and evaluate the operational, financial and personnel activities of the department; provide administrative leadership and supervision; prepare annual operating budget recommendations; and assist with the development, implementation and administration of departmental operating policies and procedures.

  • Lead and supervise the college's team of Retention and Completion coaches, including the identification of goals and targets for Retention and Completion Coach roles. Develop, maintain and modify Retention and Completion Coach cohorts.

  • Collect and evaluate data on causes of KVCC student attrition to inform the development of a comprehensive retention plan that aligns resources and initiatives to achieve retention goals.

  • Co-Chair the Strategic Enrollment and Retention Committee which coordinates enrollment and retention efforts with academic leadership, faculty and support services.

  • Advocate for and coordinate college-wide efforts to promote student success, persistence, and graduation. Develop and implement data-driven outcomes and assessment strategies to evaluate the effectiveness of retention objectives and programs.

  • Analyze trends related to at risk students; work cross-functionally to aid in the development of preventive, remedial, and supportive programs.

  • Create and execute a communication plan for stakeholders on retention objectives and initiatives, the impact and effectiveness of retention activities and programming, assessment of at-risk retention initiatives and analysis of relevant data sets.

  • Serve as project lead/project manager for re-enrollment and retention-driven initiatives.

Reports to:

Associate Vice President for Collaboration, Compliance and Analytics.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Administrative and functional supervision is exercised over approximately six full-time employees.

Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • Knowledge of institutional policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:

A combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities. An example of this would be a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate field and two years of related experience.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience:

Prior experience in higher education preferred.

  • Friday, 8:00am
