The McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia seeks applicants for a new Assistant Director of Student Life (ADSL) to work collaboratively on successfully implementing Student Life functions and educational services. In particular, the ADSL will serve as an academic advisor for an assigned cohort of undergraduate students, help deliver and coach students on strategies to maximize academic success, and promote academic opportunities for McIntire students. Additionally, the ADSL will contribute to designing student onboarding, advising resource development, program planning and execution, and collaborating with student leaders and professional colleagues to design and facilitate community-building experiences.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated success in advising college students, a commitment to supporting diverse learners, and an understanding of and respect for the University of Virginia's tradition of student self-governance. In addition, candidates should demonstrate excellent organizational skills, outstanding customer service, strong interpersonal skills, flexibility, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented, and entrepreneurial environment.

Experience designing and executing events for and with college students and working with leaders of college student organizations is preferred. Creativity, strong written and oral communication skills, and technology proficiency are essential. Flexibility to work occasional evenings and/or weekends as dictated by program schedules and student needs is required.

The McIntire Student Services and Academic Operations Office (SSAO) encourages, empowers, and supports undergraduate and graduate students toward successfully completing academic and co-curricular programs. Within SSAO, the Student Life team is responsible for designing student onboarding and orientation resources and programs, facilitating inclusive community-building programming that promotes belonging, supporting Commerce-related student organizations and governing councils (Undergraduate and Graduate Commerce Councils), advising students as they matriculate through their program of study, and collaborating with faculty in providing exceptional support to our student communities.

International travel opportunities with one of McIntire's short-term study abroad programs may be available to staff members on an optional basis.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in student affairs, higher education, counseling, or another equivalent field and at least three (3) years of relevant experience.

  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of an advanced degree.

  • Proficient in using the Microsoft Office suite

  • Experience with learning management systems (e.g., Canvas), the Student Information System (SIS), Stellic, Drupal, Salesforce, and Qualtrics preferred.

Anticipated hiring range: $ 58,000 - $70,000

The selected candidate will be required to complete a background check prior to their first day of employment Per University policy.
