Monmouth University is seeking applications for an Assistant Director of Student Engagement for Fraternity and Sorority Life (FSL) in the Student Life Department.

The Assistant Director of Student Engagement for FSL reports to the Director of Student Engagement and works very closely with the Associate Director of Student Engagement for Fraternity and Sorority Life. The Assistant Director along with the Associate Director is responsible for advising and engaging with members of the fraternity and sorority community, which includes organizations representing the National Association of Latino Fraternal Organizations (NALFO), National Interfraternity Council (NIC), National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC), and the National Panhellenic Conference (NPC).

In conjunction with the Associate Director, the Assistant Director of Student Engagement for FSL will create and maintain an infrastructure to support the enhancement of the fraternity/sorority community. The Assistant Director is also responsible for large-scale program planning and implementation of signature events.

This is a live-on-campus position that will also serve in the Office of Residence Life's on-call duty rotation.

Candidates must display a strong commitment to student learning, communicate effectively, and work collaboratively with colleagues across the University and constituents invested in the fraternal community.

Evening and weekend hours are to be expected.

This is an on-campus, in-person, non-remote position.

Housing is provided for the Assistant Direct of Student Engagement for Fraternity & Sorority Life as they are required to live on campus.

  • Ability to manage multiple complex projects at the same time, including large-scale program planning.

  • Strong presentation skills.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of fraternity and sorority life.

  • Experience with facilitation and training.

  • Ability to exercise discretion and tact with a variety of constituent groups.

  • Strong commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.

  • Ability to work non-routine hours, including some weekend hours and occasional travel.

  • Ability to reside on campus.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling or other related field.

  • Membership in a national fraternity or sorority.

  • Experience designing training curriculum.

  • Demonstrated skills in relationship building and collaboration.

  • Knowledge of community governance and systems of peer accountability.

  • Knowledge of academic, social, and cultural transitions faced by students during their undergraduate career.

Share advisement of chapters and councils with the Associate Director with particular emphasis on operations, scholarship, community relations, programming, and understanding University policy.

Develop, plan, and implement large-scale programs including, but not limited to, Panhellenic sorority formal recruitment, Greek Week, Hazing Prevention Week, and council officer retreats.

Identify opportunities for education and create training and educational programming on topics including, but not limited to, harm reduction, diversity and inclusion, hazing prevention, and leadership skill-building.

Work with chapters and councils to create transition materials and leadership development workshops to maintain continuity between outgoing and incoming executive boards.

Establish and execute a marketing and communication plan for Fraternity and Sorority Life focused on the variety of constituents invested in the community including prospective members and their parents/families.

Assist the Associate Director in maintaining community-wide records (i.e rosters, grade reports), and capturing and reporting data regarding fraternity/sorority performance and member statistics (i.e. community service hours, philanthropic donations made).

Demonstrate a commitment to professional development to both enhance individual competencies and gain knowledge on best practices in fraternity and sorority advising and student affairs broadly.

Fulfill administrative commitments, such as, required meetings and university-wide expectations, as necessary.

Serve as a staff member within the Office of Student Engagement. Share responsibility with other staff members for advising student events. Serve as a resource person to students, as well as, campus clubs and organizations.

Be available to students and staff at irregular hours, including attending events during nights and weekends.

Support other campus programming efforts such as New Student Orientation, Residential programming, Weeks of Welcome, Homecoming, Springfest, Open House and Commencement.

Live in University owned housing. Attend staff meetings with the Office of Residence Life and serve in the Residence Life Director on call rotation.
