As part of a diverse community of faculty and staff who represent many faith systems and worldviews, Marian University is seeking a Assistant Director of Residential and Commuter Life who will promote Marian University's Catholic Franciscan mission and identity by working closely with the Director and division to provide a vision of vibrant residential living marked by experiential learning, transformative leadership, and service through our core Franciscan values. The Assistant Director of Residential and Commuter Life at Marian University in Indianapolis, IN will be a partner with the Director and the division team to execute necessary tasks within the Office of Residential and Commuter Life. The Assistant Director is primarily responsible for the management of graduate housing, commuter student engagement, and professional staff supervision. The Assistant Director, in conjunction with the Director, develops and executes various annual housing assignment processes/marketing, administers the housing management database, coordinates student staff training, and closely monitors commuter student engagement. This position will coordinate with Campus Events staff to provide overnight conference groups with high-quality customer service in the summer.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Actively engage the Catholic Franciscan mission and identity of Marian University by modeling the Franciscan Sponsorship Values and honoring the legacy of the founding congregation through transformative education, unity in diversity, leadership through service, integrating faith and life, and institutional policies.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and evaluate three Area Coordinators.

  • Support the engagement and success of commuter students.

  • Oversee student staff training throughout the year.

  • Provide support and service to residents in graduate housing.

  • Lead summer conference housing services in collaboration with campus events staff.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Plans, manages, and coordinates various annual housing development including student staff training, Area Coordinator training, and RA in-service education

  • Plans, manages, and coordinates various annual housing processes including resident arrivals and departures, room selection, seasonal turnovers, and assignments in conjunction with Director.

  • Responsible for the management of summer housing assignments and summer conference group assignments.

  • Serves as a professional staff member in on-call rotation with other professional staff members.

  • Coordinates with Campus Operations staff to resolve maintenance issues and plan for routine maintenance projects.

  • Responds to campus spark alerts to follow up on academic students of concern.

  • Works with the Area Coordinators to mediate roommate conflicts and provide space changes as deemed appropriate.

  • Serves as a conduct officer for the Residential and Commuter Life office.

  • Coordinates, updates, manages, and monitors all aspects of the housing management database and software in conjunction with the Director.

  • Maintains detailed records related to all housing assignments, applications, and lease agreements.

  • Assists in the assessment of programming models, goals, learning outcomes, and related residence education resources.

  • Updates department housing materials and publications (application, contract, related forms, web pages, and social media) in conjunction with the Director.

  • Represents office on committees and represents Marian University with community partners, as needed.

  • Develops and maintains appropriate relationships with residents.

  • Available and visible to residents within the Marian University community.

  • Provides high-quality customer service to residential students and families within 24 hours.

  • Responds to student and facility issues and emergencies in a calm manner that communicates confident and appropriate decision making.

  • Fosters a collaborative working relationship with custodial and maintenance staff to maintain a positive living environment for all residents.

  • Available for evening hours, weekend hours, and special University events or projects. This may include holidays and times when the University is officially closed.

  • Supports office operations and undertakes other tasks to assist Director of Residential and Commuter Life as needed.

  • Supports the development of strong communities with efficient operations management.

  • Performs other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Reqiured Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in College Student Personnel, Student Affairs, Higher Education, or related field

  • Significant progressive experience in residence life and/or significant experience with student development in a higher education setting

  • Progressive residential experience with billing, assignments, and facilities

  • Crisis management experience

  • Ability to demonstrate initiative and work autonomously

  • Ability to work on multiple tasks in a high traffic area with attention to detail

  • This is a 12-month, renewable live-on position
