Position Summary

The Assistant Director is responsible for developing relationships with Elon's parent and family constituency base - working to ultimately solicit and close leadership annual gifts to meet the university's key priorities. This person works collaboratively with the advancement team at Elon, specifically the Parent Engagement team, and is responsible managing and executing initiatives to build a culture of engagement and philanthropy among parents and families of Elon students and alumni. This position will play a vital role in helping University Advancement to achieve its engagement and fundraising goals.

Minimum Required Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree required. Three to five years professional experience in higher education or nonprofit fundraising or a combination of education and experience in sales, volunteer management, recruiting, marketing or development; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Job Duties

  • Fundraising
  • This position will execute a strategic approach to identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward Elon parents and families as partners, advocates, and investors.

  • Directly manage a portfolio of 200+ parents by encouraging them to stay connected, informed and involved; recruiting and expanding Elon's professional network; and encouraging Elon Society level annual gifts ($1,500 - $25,000). Annually develop a list of goals and objectives focused primarily on visits, leadership annual gifts, dollars raised, and other strategic activities.

  • In partnership with Annual Giving and key leaders, create and maintain comprehensive parent and grandparent solicitation calendar and coordinate direct appeal solicitations with parents and grandparents gear towards achieving parent and grandparent participation and fundraising goals.

  • As part of a team, this role contributes to the success of Elon University's giving day, Elon Day, and a diverse set of annual giving solicitation efforts through the management of parent volunteers, direct outreach, preparation of multi-channel communications and other duties as assigned.

  • Operations
  • Provide leadership and manage the Parents Council Advancement Committee.

  • Develop the necessary mailing, email, text, etc., lists for various and often complex parent and grandparent annual giving communications; oversee the production and delivery of solicitations by working closely with Annual Giving, Advancement Communications and the Office of University Communications.

  • Regularly maintain reporting dashboards and develop and prepare analytical reports for various parent and grandparent fundraising initiatives as needed.

  • Utilize technology that includes Raiser's Edge, Elon's internal database, to run queries and exports to support reunions, annual giving fundraising initiatives, prospect management, etc.

  • In partnership with various campus departments, support in the identification and recruitment of parent volunteers for affinity based volunteer councils.

  • Support Elon University events and projects (Move In, Commencement Week, etc.) and University Advancement events and projects (Homecoming & Reunion Weekend, regional events, mailing/shipping fulfillment, etc.)

  • Communications and Engagement
  • Connect with parent and grandparent prospects based on Advancement and University priorities through email, social media, mailings, phone calls, and face to face meetings either at Elon or in parent and grandparent cities of residence.

  • Maintain regular contact with the Parents Council Advancement Committee. Provide exceptional resources for Advancement Committee volunteers involved in outreach and respond promptly to all inquiries regarding giving. Coordinate conference calls, virtual meetings and/or on-site meetings as needed.

  • Provide exceptional customer service to our constituents acting with the greatest amount of professionalism and expressing the highest sense of urgency.

  • Strategic Leadership
  • Provide creativity and strategic thinking to propose new activities to enhance parent engagement efforts at Elon University.

  • Collaborate with parent volunteers, campus partners and University Advancement colleagues to advance parent engagement efforts.
