CORE COMPETENCIES

Reporting to the Nursing Director, the Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) focus is to partner in the development, coordination and administration of NLCS nursing programs and services. The Assistant Director of Nursing assists the Nursing Director in managing overall operation of the Nursing Services Department in accordance with current Federal, State, and local standards, guidelines and NLCS policies and procedures.

  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary team, identifies ways to improve care of residents/guests, and make recommendations as appropriate

  • Ensures that the highest degree of quality care is delivered and maintained at all times

  • Assumes lead responsibility in the absence of the Nursing Director

  • Supports policies, procedures, guidelines and standards of NLCS

  • Assists in organizing, developing, and directing the administration and resident/guest care of the Nursing Service Department

  • Partners with the NLCS education team, nursing director and care coaches in the planning, implementation and administration of nursing orientation, competency assessments, and job skills training in accordance with company policies and regulations

  • In collaboration with the Nursing Director, plans, organizes and directs effective administration of nursing services and patient care given based on the established goals and objectives, standards, policies, and procedures of entity

  • Monitors staffing and unit activities; communicates policies and procedures; evaluates performance, and provides feedback; assists, coaches, and trains staff as needed

  • Verifies care activity documentation to ensure the delivery of nursing care according to physician's orders, care plans, established standards and facility policies. Ensures medication administration is as ordered in accordance with nursing standards and NLCS procedures and policies

  • Lead over wound rounds and documentation as per regulatory guidelines and as ordered in accordance with nursing standards and NLCS procedures and policies

  • Conducts regular rounds to monitor resident/guest activity and ensures resident quality care. Ensures the acuity of the residents living on assigned units. Consults with Staffing Coordinator and Care Coaches as appropriate; make changes as required

  • Directly verifies and documents status of seriously ill resident/guests, new admissions and resident/guests who have been involved in a recent fall/incident against the 24 hour report and high risk UDA in Point Click Care (PCC).

  • Regularly inspects implementation and activity related to nursing practices and compliance with federal, state and local standards and regulations; as well as the policies and procedures of NLCS.

  • Partners in developing and maintaining nursing service objectives, standards of nursing practice, nursing policy and procedure manuals, , scheduling of rounds and methods for coordination of nursing services with resident services in cooperation with the Nursing Director

  • Ensures in partnership with Talent and Culture, that written job descriptions for each level of nursing personnel are current

  • Partners in Development of Care Plans for individual resident/guests including rehabilitative and restorative activities

  • Reviews Infection Control Reports, Medication Incident Reports, Patient Incident Reports, Wound Reports/Rounds, Risk Management, for tracking/trending and compliance and or corrective action; respond as required

  • Utilizes available resources to streamline processes- such as PCC, RealTime, CRISP, Point Right, etc. Provides ongoing coaching, supervisory, performance management, training and leadership for their team

  • Build trust and accountability by frequently holding coaching conversations with team members to develop, mentor, and provide constructive feedback to support team members' goals and strategies

  • Conduct required stay interviews for all new hires

  • Practices regular Coaching Conversations with direct reports to build up and equip

  • Run and manage various reports from HRIS / payroll systems to maintain compliance with employee licensures, payroll, online learning system, attendance, etc.

  • Performs other duties as assigned

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  • Registered Nurse licensed in the State of Maryland, current CPR and first aid certification required

  • Experience in geriatric and/or subacutem nursing; house supervisory; unit manager and leadership skills of others preferred

  • Computer electronic medical record experience is required

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse group of stakeholders

  • Ability to organize, provide leadership, communicate, coach and counsel subordinates

  • Knowledge, experience and proficiency with COMAR, Office of Health Care Quality and CMS guidelines a plus

  • Knowledge with Nursing Assistant and Licensed/Registered Nurse Scope of Practice

  • Proven, positive leadership skills essential

  • Ability to organize, provide leadership, communicate, coach and counsel direct report team members Must be proficient in Microsoft Office
