Job Title Assistant Director of Nursing Rank Faculty 9-month Job Description

  • Work 35 hour workweek, which includes eight student hours per week.

  • Teach NUR 214 Course or NUR related course and assist with preparation for the transitional students.

  • Assist in the classroom in the event someone is absent or an emergency situation.

  • Provide equitable course content and student learning outcomes in all courses regardless of location or delivery method.

  • Schedule clinicals.

  • Serve as a preceptor instructor for Nursing students.

  • Create lab schedules for PN and ADN students.

  • Evaluate each clinical faculty member on a schedule established and coordinated by the Dean of Health Sciences and Public Services.

  • Recruit part-time faculty; provide leadership in identification and implementation of course innovations and improvements; participate in student and personnel policy matters including grade contesting, student complaints and employee issues.

  • Supervise clinical faculty and coordinate schedules with the Department Chair and with the Dean of Health Sciences and Public Services.

  • Provide equitable course content and student learning outcomes in all courses regardless of location or delivery method.

  • Develop course syllabi according to NCCCS (North Carolina Community College System) course descriptions and college standards and adhere to the course syllabus.

  • Assists with identifying and supporting processes that foster student learning, effective teaching, and meaningful curriculums of study resulting in the achievement of identified outcomes.

  • Coordinates processes for syllabi, learning resources and textbooks.

  • Assist in planning, managing, and evaluating all aspects of the program to include assisting with faculty teaching assignments and teaching loads.

  • Supports faculty in data collection, analysis, and use to promote effective teaching and learning, and serve as the leader in all accreditation matters.

  • Conduct student conferences on a semester or as needed basis in relation to progress in lab or at clinical site.

  • Maintain compliance tracking system.

  • Completes end of course assessments, formative (on-going) assessments and incorporate adjustments with teaching methods in order to meet learning outcomes.

  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and submit final grade rosters to academic programs each semester according to established guidelines.

  • Respond in a timely fashion to information requests from colleagues, divisions, the College, and all academic affairs needs.

  • Be available to students via email, phone, or personal conferences. The method of contact and hours of availability should be clearly communicated to supervisors and to students through course syllabus each semester.

  • Allow and encourage participation in other College-required surveys (e.g. CCSSE" Community College Student Survey of Engagement).

  • Maintain proficiency with all classroom equipment both on and off-campus. Keep equipment and labs secure.

  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.

  • Supports faculty in the implementation of guiding teaching principles and the adoption of new instructional methods and innovative learning strategies.

  • Participate in student recruitment, advisement, advisory committee meetings, curriculum development, orientation, and registration.

  • Identifies opportunities for partnerships with senior colleges and universities to provide career pathways for nursing program graduates.

  • Assist with job placement or possible student assignments, depending upon department needs.

  • Works with faculty and staff to address student issues and discipline problems using appropriate policy and procedures.

  • Follow all HIPPA and FERPA laws.

  • Responsible for new student acceptance and orientation for incoming students.

  • Assist with the evaluation of faculty.

  • Apply ExamSoft /ATI data for yearly quality improvement in compliance with ACEN standards.

  • Developing partnerships with healthcare agencies to accommodate students for ADN and PN students for clinical requirements by obtaining contracts.

  • Coordinates the instructional process through appropriate planning, completion of scheduling activities, teaching assignments and ensuring the adequacy of supplies, equipment, and facilities.

  • Explores opportunities for additional clinical resources and coordinates processes for contract initiation and renewal.

  • Participates in College efforts to manage enrollment through strategic planning for marketing, recruitment, and quality of student life and learning.

  • Represents programs and Cleveland Community College at local, state and national events.

  • Ensures that courses are appropriate to support the academic mission of the College.

  • Participate in all graduation ceremonies.

  • Participate in required meetings and events.

  • Participate in professional development activities and College-required training.

  • Participate in the marketing, recruitment, and retention of students, faculty, and staff.

  • Record professional development as part of the annual review.

  • Remain current on teaching methods with technology and enhance instructional delivery and learning outcomes.

  • Demonstrate proficiency in the College Learning Management System to deliver online instruction and enhance on-campus and off-campus instruction through all courses.

  • Make all courses taught accessible to all students and maintains technical standards assessment of instruction.

  • Assist with the College's library collection development by selecting, evaluating and weeding learning resources in each appropriate discipline as requested.

  • Serves on professional committees for Atrium Health and NCCCS Directors of Nursing.

  • Communicate effectively and work cooperatively with others in a collegial environment.

  • Perform other duties as assigned and related assignments incidents to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Hold a current unrestricted license or multistate licensure privilege to practice as a registered nurse in North Carolina;

  • Have two years of full-time experience as a faculty member in a Board-approved nursing program.

  • Be experientially qualified to lead the program to accomplish the mission, goals, and expected program outcomes.

  • Master's Degree in nursing education or nursing from a regionally accredited institution

  • Prior to or within the first three years of employment, have education in teaching and learning principles for adult education, including curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation, appropriate to the program director role, as outlined in the NCBON regulations.

  • Maintain competence in the areas of assigned responsibility; and

  • Have current knowledge of concept-based and evidence-based nursing practice for the registered nurse and the licensed practical nurse.

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to work effectively and collegially with others.

  • Skilled in the use of computers and commitment to use of technology.

  • Experience with current version of MS Office or similar programs.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Provide exceptional customer service with people internal and external to the institution.

  • Familiarity with and appreciation for the mission of a comprehensive community college.

  • Flexible and adapts to change.

  • Ability to multi-task with multiple departments and activities of others.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred:

  • Clinical experience as a registered nurse in a medical, hospital, skilled care, clinical setting, or surgical setting.

  • Combination of recent teaching, clinical coordination and/or leadership experience in an associate degree nursing program. Recent experience instructing nursing students within the classroom, lab, and clinical settings.

  • Experience, training or certification in high-fidelity simulation as applied to nursing education.

  • Demonstrated success working with a faculty team to align curricula and assessment plans.

  • Recent professional and community activities in the nursing/nurse education profession.

  • Demonstrated experience using instructional technologies, administering computer-based tests, facilitating high-fidelity simulation activities, and utilizing learning management systems such as Moodle or Blackboard.

Salary Range Based on experience. Starting salary range $47,213 to $70,866.
