The Department of Military and Veterans Programs (MVP) at Pikes Peak State College (PPSC) provides guidance and coordination of student services and support for student veterans, dependents, and active- duty military personnel. Services include inquiries regarding degree and certificate programs, admissions processes, placement testing proctoring and/or exemption, advising, and enrollment.

The college offers the possibility for alternative work arrangements such as flexplace, remote work, or flextime scheduling upon completion of training and department needs.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Completed Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited education institution.

  • Professional level experience working in a student services area at a college or university.

  • Two years of supervisory experience.

Professional level experience is defined by the Colorado Division of Human Resources: A position that involves the exercise of discretion, analytical skill, judgment, personal accountability, and responsibility for creating, developing, integrating, applying, or sharing an organized body of knowledge. Colorado revised statute (C.R.S. 24-50-135(1) allows colleges to exempt positions from the State Personnel Classified System that are determined to be professional level work.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completed Master's degree or PhD from a regionally accredited educational institution.

  • Supervision experience in a post-secondary education institution.

  • Bilingual in either Spanish or another Latin-based language.

  • Air Force or Space Force Veteran.

  • Professional experience building rapport and working collaboratively with a variety of constituents and diverse populations.

  • Demonstrated experience with public speaking and group educational presentations.

  • Experience working with Department of Defense tuition assistance programs.

  • Experience working with Department of Veterans Affairs education benefits programs.

  • Knowledge and experience in budget development and management.

  • Experience with Banner Student Information System.

  • Experience with computer office software applications (word processing, database, spreadsheet, presentation) and Internet.

Essential Functions

Space Force and Air Force Management and Support

Provides leadership and management oversight for the development of the strategy, programs, and activities for this student population and their family members with an emphasis on recruitment and retention of US Service members (except US Army) and their family members in this demographic; Responsible for the effective operations of the PSFB PPSC Learning Center and for providing nearly all aspects of student services support and customer service. Is the primary liaison with Space Force and Air Force Education Center personnel. Works to build relationships and partnerships throughout the service area to provide more awareness of college opportunities for this military demographic. Supervises staff of PSFB campus learning center including full time employees, work study employees, night monitors, and testing personnel when onsite. Collects and uses data for effective management of programs. Leads and Manages the PSFB military site instructional schedule in cooperation with instructional executive deans.

VA Benefits, Recruitment, and Retention

Provides leadership and management oversight for the VA benefit processing and procedures for PPSC. Works closely with the MVP Operations Manager in ensuring compliance with law and regulation with respect to the VA benefits process. Communicates, coordinates, and develops a relationship with the State Approving Agency (SAA) and the Education Liaison Representative (ELR) for VA and other regional and national organizations and entities. Ensures PPSC processes and procedures align with the most updated laws and regulations. Develops the strategy, programs, and activities to recruit veterans, active duty, and family members eligible to use VA benefits and drives retention to maximize student success. Coordinates and collaborates with instructional executive deans to ensure college remains up to date in providing programs that are fully vetted by VA. Evaluates current and future program effectiveness on an ongoing basis. Collects and uses data for effective management of programs.

Department Support

Leads and manages MVP office operations at the PPSC Rampart Range Campus providing student services support. Coordinates and collaborates with executive deans to provide military and veteran affiliated student focused programming to raise the profile of this demographic throughout the campus location. Supervises full time and work study staff for effective office operations. Coordinates and collaborates with Admissions and Enrollment Services on location.

Additional Duties

Performs other duties as required by the director. These may include but are not limited to: PPSC representational function with regional and national organizations; budget management for the department; development of MVP marketing materials; participation in marketing and recruiting events and education center activities; data collection and analysis across all aspects of the department; representational functions for the director in his/her absence; preparing and executing contracts for part time and faculty employees; department hiring of personnel; demonstrated evidence and understanding of the concepts of diversity, equity, inclusion, and multiculturalism and their reasonable accommodation.

General Duties, Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Cultural competence and demonstrated evidence, understanding, and commitment to the concepts of diversity, multiculturalism, and their application in the workplace.

  • Provides support with all student services functions excluding Accessibility Services, via web form or referral.

  • Provides support with obtaining Department of Defense (DOD) and Veterans Affairs (VA) educational benefits.

  • Ensures Banner coding identifying active duty and dependent status is identified.

  • Represents the department to the broader instructional environment and local community when the Director is not present.

  • Provides leadership and management for the Peterson Space Force Base (PSFB) campus learning center and associated Space Force/Air Force military locations and provides oversight for the VA benefits process.
