Job Description:

The Faculty-Student Association of Broome Community College, Inc. (F-SA) is seeking a full-time, salaried, 12-month, live-in Assistant Director of Housing for the Student Village. This administrative position reports to the Director of Housing & Residential Life (Director). The Assistant Director of Housing & Resident Life supports the Director of Housing & Residential Life and Assistant Director of Residential Life (ADRL) in the supervision of Resident Assistants (RA's), other student staff, and graduate staff/interns.

General Responsibilities:

This position assists in supporting the BCC HDC Housing program, consistent with the College's mission, vision and goals. The Assistant Director of Housing (ADH) provides hands on support related to operations, policies, and procedures and works with campus partners to achieve student success initiatives. The ADH manages and performs administrative functions related to the operation of the residence hall, the Student Village - including primary customer service related to the department email and phone communication. The ADH supervises the department, in the absence of the Director and the ADRL.

Functional Responsibilities:

  • Serve as housing assignments coordinator, overseeing room assignments, room changes, cancelations, meal plan selections and cancelation, and export of student resident charges to the College.

  • Communicates daily meal plan changes, deposit refunds or forfeitures, and damage reports to F-SA.

  • Assists in vetting all student residents prior to their move-in day. This includes substantial communication with the offices of Student Accounts, Financial Aid, Registrar, Academic Advising and Admissions.

  • Collects and maintains emergency contact data.

  • Generates computer reports as needed.

  • Assists with the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and activities for residential students.

  • Assists the Facilities Operations Lead with entering student resident room damages, as well as maintains the damage reports.

  • Oversees maintaining and updating the building roster. Distributes roster weekly to Public Safety.

  • Ensures the safety and security of the residential students by working closely with the Facilities Operations Lead and Public Safety.

  • Supports the Director with conduct related matters, under the direction of the Dean of Student's Office.

  • Supports Student Village opening and closing throughout the year.

  • Rotates on-call responsibilities with other professional staff.

  • Works in collaboration with ADRL in support of Resident Assistants in their roles, including training.

  • Serves on College committees.

  • Performs other essential functions and related duties, as assigned.

  • Utilizes database systems regularly to track students and address issues as needed.

  • Maintains an accurate vacancy list, and waitlist when necessary.

  • Assists the Director and ADRL in maintaining cleanliness and organization of the front desk and assists in training student workers as assigned. Works with Public Safety with regards to the guest registration system.

  • Manages the US mail program for the Student Village and assists the Director and ADRL to ensure the student workers are trained and follow proper procedures.

  • Develops and maintains records related to the housing operations, including Room Condition Reports (RCR) - work to transition RCR process to an online system.

  • Conducts and tracks follow-up efforts with student residents that are not financially cleared and/or not registered for a minimum of 12 credits.

  • Works closely with the Facilities Team to resolve work order concerns.

  • Works in collaboration with the ADRL in support of the hiring, training and supervision of summer employees as needed, including summer conference staff, summer resident assistants, graduate interns, and summer EOP staff.

  • Coordinates summer camps and conference groups room assignments.

  • Provides support to the ADRL in processes associated with summer camps and conferences, including paperwork, keys, and orienting students and families to rules of the Student Village and on-campus living.

  • Supports the Facilities Team in ensuring building inspections are completed for Student Village openings and closings.

Requirements:

Required Skills:

  • Strong leadership, verbal/written communication, organizational, administrative, and Interpersonal skills;

  • Computer literate;

  • Familiarity with residence hall living;

  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations of students, staff, and external constituencies;

  • Ability to work with and maintain confidential information;

  • Flexibility to work non-traditional hours to meet the needs of students.

Special Requirements:

  • The employee must live in the Student Village in a staff apartment, at no cost to the employee.

  • The employee receives a meal plan each Fall and Spring semester, at no cost to the employee, with the expectation that the meal plan be used to develop community with the students by joining the students for meals throughout the semester. Meal plan services are not provided during scheduled semester breaks, winter or summer terms.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution; or foreign equivalent; AND
  • 2-4 years of previous professional housing, residential life or student affairs experience; AND
  • Demonstrated experience or understanding of housing operations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Student Affairs, Counseling, or related field.

  • Experience utilizing Adirondack's The Housing Director (THD), or similar housing software.

This position is subject to a criminal background and MVR check.

Additional Information:

The minimum annual salary rate for this position is $58,458.

Offers of employment will be conditional based upon the results of a satisfactory, required pre-employment Standard Background Check.
