The Assistant Director of Housing and Residence Life plays a vital role in creating a vibrant and supportive residential community that enhances the overall student experience.

Position Summary: The Assistant Director of Housing and Residence Life plays a vital role in creating a vibrant and supportive residential community that enhances the overall student experience. This position is responsible for assisting in the management and administration of all aspects of campus housing and residence life programs. The Assistant Director collaborates closely with the Associate Dean of Students and other campus stakeholders to ensure the successful operation of residential facilities and the delivery of high-quality services to students.

Key Responsibilities:

Residential Operations Management: Oversee the day-to-day operations of campus housing facilities, including occupancy management, maintenance coordination, and safety protocols enforcement.

  • Maintain close and constant communication with campus safety, facilities, and custodial staff to ensure safety, security, and wellbeing of residential students and facilities.

  • Collaborate with facilities to provide a safe, clean, and comfortable residential experience. Manage damage billing.

Student Engagement and Support: Develop and implement programs and initiatives tailored to the unique needs of neurodivergent students, promoting a sense of community, inclusivity and personal growth.

  • Provide support and guidance to students on personal, social, and academic matters;

  • Support students social-emotional development;

  • Participates and contributes to broader student life programs, events, and initiatives;

  • Plans, implements, monitors, and evaluates student on-campus activities;

  • Serve as the advisor to the Residence Hall Association, providing oversight and development of the program.

Staff Supervision and Development: Supervise and support Resident Directors and Resident Assistants. Conduct regular training sessions, evaluations, and professional development opportunities to enhance staff performance and job satisfaction.

  • Works with the Housing team to create and maintain a safe, healthy, supportive living environment that promotes student learning and development;

  • Supervises Housing staff who provide oversight of housing operations including assignments, openings and closings, check-in/check-out procedures, key management, room inspections, room transfers, and occupancy reports;

  • Provide training on best practices for working with neurodivergent students.

Policy Development and Enforcement: Assist in the development, implementation, and enforcement of housing policies, procedures, and regulations.

  • Ensure compliance with university policies and local/state regulations;

  • Adjudicate conduct cases for incidents related to residence life code of conduct policies;

  • Collaborate with Associate Dean of Students on all incidents related to housing matters.

Crisis Management and Response: Serve as a key point of contact for emergencies and crises within the residential community.

  • Coordinate response efforts, provide support to affected students, and liaise with relevant campus departments and external agencies as needed;

  • Serves on-call above the Resident Directors, intervening as needed and providing situational support to students and staff.

Budget Management: Assist in the preparation and management of the housing and residence life budget.

  • Monitor expenditures, identify cost-saving opportunities, and allocate resources effectively to support departmental goals.

Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement: Foster positive relationships with campus partners, including academic departments, student affairs offices, facilities management, and public safety.

  • Collaborate on cross-functional initiatives and represent the Housing and Residence Life department in relevant committees and meetings;

  • Participates as needed in college functions such as orientation, graduation, open houses, etc.

Assessment and Evaluation: Collect, analyze, and utilize data to assess the effectiveness of housing programs and services.

  • Conducts assessments of programs and services to ensure the effectiveness of programs and services, specifically to serve the needs of neurodivergent students;

  • Maintains appropriate documentation and completing annual reports.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Serves as an advisor, crisis manager, and communicator for parental inquires and concerns. Advising and connecting parents with appropriate resources on campus or recommending strategies for their students to be successful;

  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required, master's degree in higher education administration or related field preferred;

  • Management experience working within a higher education environment a must, particularly those with experience with students with learning differences;

  • Knowledge of best practices in higher education student housing including operating policies, programming, and legal/liability issues;

  • Proficiency with Allegion Engage, and S2 card access control software and Maxient student conduct software a plus;

  • Candidates must have outstanding verbal and written communication skills, along with strong organizational skills;

  • Should be a dynamic team player and a positive role model in working with students and in representing Beacon College;

  • Supports the development of an inclusive residential community and demonstrates cultural competency in race, gender, gender identity expression, sexual orientation, religion, or national origin;

  • Must be willing to work flexible, non-traditional hours;

  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite is preferred.
