Position Title Assistant Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life Position Number 899028 School/Division Office of Student Leadership and Engagement Department Full-Time or Part-Time Full-Time Description

Reporting to the Associate Director of Student Leadership and Engagement, the Assistant Director for Fraternity and Sorority Life is responsible for supporting the mission of the office, the division of Student Enrollment, Engagement, and Success, and Hofstra University by providing support and leadership to the fraternity and sorority community. The Assistant Director will serve as a resource for chapter presidents, faculty/staff advisors, alumni, parents, national representatives, and the university community regarding fraternity and sorority life. This is a full-time position and occasional evening and/or weekend hours may be expected as a part of the position.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Manages the esteemed position of the Fraternity and Sorority Life community by ensuring their understanding and compliance with all University policies, as well as municipal, state, and federal laws by providing the appropriate resources and training.

  • Oversees all aspects of the University's social and pre-professional Greek letter fraternity and sorority system.

  • Oversees curriculum development and facilitation of leadership education programming as part of the Emerging Greek Leaders series.

  • Designs and implements assessment to evaluate the effectiveness of programs and services offered to the FSL community by the Office of Student Leadership and Engagement.

  • Collaborates and provides leadership to the InterFraternity Council, the Panhellenic Council, the Multicultural Fraternity and Sorority Council, and the Professional Fraternity Council.

  • Facilitates Panhellenic Formal Recruitment on an annual basis.

  • Develops the enhancing community practices through a lens of inclusion, equity, and ethical decision-making.

  • Liasons with organizations and national chapters to maintain accurate records of Greek membership and participation on and off campus.

  • Creates and executes initiatives around hazing prevention, sexual violence, new member education, identity and inclusion, and other topics as determined.

  • Develops an annual operating budget and ensure that University resources are efficiently, ethically, and effectively utilized.

  • Monitors and maintains budgetary controls and accountability.

  • Learns and remains up to date about national current trends when representing Hofstra at national and regional conferences.

  • Serves as a liaison to national offices, regional and on campus advisors.

  • Serves as a member of the Administrative Hearing Board for the Office of Community Standards and participates in all training programs.

  • Serves as an Administrative Advisor to additional student organizations as needed.

  • Supports the Division of Student Enrollment, Engagement, and Success with all community service initiatives.

  • Supervises Graduate student staff within the organization.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required.

  • At least one year of related experience in student affairs.

  • Ability to effectively supervise graduate and undergraduate student staff.

  • Knowledge of student development/leadership theories, as well as fraternity and sorority life, and current best practices, and the ability to apply them appropriately.

  • A demonstrated commitment to the holistic development of diverse student populations.

  • Excellent interpersonal, problem-solving, written and oral communication/presentation skills.

  • Ability to work effectively and ethically with a diverse population of students, University faculty/administrators, and community members.

  • Demonstrate outstanding computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

  • Professional experience with social media platforms, desktop publishing and web content management system software.

  • Ability to learn new software as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a related field (e.g., student affairs, education, counseling) preferred.

  • Professional experience with Banner, Access, and Engage.

Salary/Salary Range $63,000 - $65,000

Hofstra University provides the above salary* as a good faith estimate of the starting pay range which considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience and education.
