The Assistant Director will devise strategies and develop opportunities to strengthen engagement and deepen an affinity for the college with the main support persons for current students (families, mentors, sponsors). This position creates comprehensive communication plans for this demographic; recruits, manages and stewards current family volunteers; plans for an annual family weekend with campus partners; and manages summer welcome events for the families of incoming students. The assistant director reports to the senior associate director of alumni and family engagement.
Duties:
Creates strategic communication plans for current families, sharing information needed to support the experience and well-being of current students. This includes monthly newsletters to all current families, sourcing information from campus partners, oversight of family groups in Facebook and Davidson Connect (online community), and individual communications with families as needed throughout the year.
Leads a collaborative planning process with campus partners to to design and execute programming for Davidson's family weekend (Wildcat Weekend) planning and program. Responsibilities include strategic decisions about event offerings, logistical planning with College Relations staff and campus partners, volunteer management, marketing and website maintenance, and outcomes assessment.
Recruits, manages and stewards family volunteers who host summer welcome events, serve as contact points for incoming parents, and advocate for Davidson in their communities. This includes planning and executing multiple welcome events for incoming students.
Plans and manages events for alumni families during Orientation, Wildcat Weekend and Commencement. Works with Admission to recruit and select families who participate in admission programs for alumni of the college.
Participates fully in the activities of the Alumni and Family Engagement team, the College Relations department, and the College. Responsibilities include budget management, supervision of work-study students, general assessment, alumni data management, staffing events both on and off campus, and occasional participation in divisional committees.
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree or at least two years of relevant work experience
Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
Strong organizational and project management skills
Ability to exercise good judgment in the handling of confidential information
Values the importance of equity as an organizational operating principle

Occasional travel to events may be required. Night and weekend work required when related to special events throughout the year, including family weekend and Reunion Weekend.

Flexible Work Location
Davidson College Relations has a flexible work location program in line with the College's telecommuting policy. This position is eligible for partial flexibility in work location, during non-event days, as determined with the position's manager and reviewed regularly through our performance management processes. Candidates should expect to maintain a residence within commuting distance of the Charlotte metro area. An initial campus orientation period (of several weeks to months) worked from the office is required. This policy is reviewed periodically.
