Job Description

Primary function is be a working supervisor for the Engineering Department under the direction of the Complex Director of Engineering. Work closely with the Chief Engineer to help supervise the implementation and execution of all property and equipment preventative maintenance and repairs. Consistently monitor and maintain all life safety systems and utilities according to corporate/franchise standards, local, state and national codes and regulations to protect all assets, guests and employees.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES.

  • Know all emergency procedures and protocols for fire, severe weather, bomb threats, guest accident/illness, etc.)

  • Cultivate & collaborate with Complex Director of Engineering, Security Manager & Security team on all facility operations safety and security measures. Member of Safety Committee.

  • Assist Complex Director of Engineering with recruiting, interviewing, hiring, performance evaluations, associate problem resolutions, and provide open communication with executive management team on all recommended disciplinary actions and/or terminations when appropriate.

  • Maintain a high standard of job performance for all hourly department Engineers.

  • Maintain high department productivity

  • Implement and schedule property and equipment preventive maintenance programs in compliance with corporate/franchise standards and local, state and national codes and regulation.

  • Efficiently manage, maintain and prioritize service requests and workflow through Synergy. Work closely with Complex Director of Engineering and Chief Engineer with scheduling of vendors/contractors and monitor the service performed to ensure customer satisfaction, safety and convenience.

  • Work with Chief Engineer to test and examine all inspection records and documents and life safety systems to ensure they are 100% operational at all times.

  • Assist Complex Director of Engineering in monitoring of all utilities, and document consumption to determine the effectiveness and accuracy of current systems function and record keeping.

  • Assist Complex Director of Engineering to review all purchase requests and monitor expenses to budget to ensure goals are consistently met or exceeded.

  • Assist in the administration of the department by preparing and maintaining schedules, logs, records and other documentations to ensure operation is properly staffed according to operational demands and occupancy.

  • Have an advanced knowledge of the trades, including skills to be able to efficiently and accurately repair HVAC, plumbing, electrical, refrigeration, machinery, boilers, etc., with a minimum need to call outside contractors whenever possible

GENERAL DUTIES

  • Perform your job according to standard operating procedures. And all local state and federal regulatory requirements, including OSHA (IIPP), CALDAAG/ADA, NFPA and local Fire Code Compliance, Department of Health & Safety, and more.

  • Read, understand and follow all policies, procedures and practices as outlined in the Employee Handbook

  • Implement management company and hotel's safety and emergency policies and procedures (i.e. emergency evacuation, first aid, AED) to include all safety hazards, following company's OSHA Hazard Communication program and all IIPP techniques.

  • Utilize and manage all associates usage of PPE at all times, as is appropriate the job function being performed and required by OSHA.

  • Promptly report and resolve substandard (unsafe) conditions to direct supervisor

  • Promptly fill out an incident report for accidents, injuries, property damage or loss to appropriate supervisor or Manager on Duty.

  • Keep accurate communication flowing freely among all departments.

  • Inform management promptly of any work-related problems or guest complaints

  • Practice hospitality and provide guest satisfaction

  • Promote the hotel through goodwill, courtesy and a positive attitude

  • Attend all scheduled training classes and meetings

  • Train and supervise other employees as directed by SOP and Complex DOE

  • Continue to learn and grow in your position

  • Perform any reasonable request as assigned or directed by management effectively,

and efficiently, never compromising the health or safety or yourself, another associate of guest.

  • Provide for a safe work environment by following all safety and security procedures and rules

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assume control of the Engineering Department in the absence of the Director of Engineering

  • Provide effective training and assistance to all hourly department employees

  • Work with outside contractors

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS

  • Efficiently operate small hand tools such as drills, grinders, saws, etc.

  • Safely climb ladders and stairs

  • Efficiently and safely operate light machinery such as key cutter, drill press, radial arm saw, etc.

  • Safely and efficiently operate scissor or man lifts.

  • Understand and efficiently operate advanced electrical, plumbing, refrigeration and boiler systems

  • Stand and or walk for long periods of time

  • Efficiently handle test equipment, hand tools, keys, etc.

  • Lift and carry heavy objects such as boxes, televisions, ladders, etc.

  • Learn new tasks

  • Train other department members

  • Read and understand blueprints, schematic drawings and technical parts breakdown

  • Efficiently operate all building systems

  • Must have a valid driver license

  • Must be flexible enough to work any shifts including evenings, weekends and holidays

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • A minimum of 4 year degree from an accredited university in Engineering or related major or 4 years' experience as a Chief Engineer or a combination of both experience and education.
