Description:

Departmental Advising provides direct supervision of half of LAS Student Academic Affairs' departmental Academic Advisors. The Assistant Director of Departmental Advising serves as a liaison and additional point of contact for respective departments and their Directors of Undergraduate Studies. The Assistant Director of Departmental Advising oversees the College's intercollege transfer admissions process, including chairing the Intercollege Transfer Committee.

Job Responsibilities (Essential Duties):

Provides collaborative leadership within Student Academic Affairs and degree advising administration.

Provides direct supervision to departmental Academic Advisors.

Conducts employee performance reviews and identifies professional development opportunities for staff.

Co-facilitates the departmental advisor meetings.

Serves on search committees for departmental advisors.

Assists with the onboarding and participates in the training and continued professional development of academic advisors.

Assists with departmental-based advising initiatives such as: mandatory second-year major advising; mandatory transfer, readmit, intercollege transfer advising; continuing student progress within the major review; new student advising; etc.

In moments of staff transitions and departures, provides transition support to academic departments through service as an advisor for the undergraduate student population in evaluating students' degree progress/eligibility, educating, and providing direction and guidance on degree requirements, course selection, etc.

Advising oversight of the major in Liberal Studies.

Oversees continuing student progress-to-degree review.

Oversees initiatives relating to enrollment management: audit of prerequisite checking; maintenance and communication to advisors over unique courses; and communication to students.

Other related duties include participating in and/or leading special projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Master's Degree in Higher Education, College Student Personnel, Student Affairs, Education Administration, Counseling, Liberal Arts and Sciences, or a related field.

Demonstrated experience in academic advising in an institution of higher education/learning.

Prior experience with advising and administration in student enrollment life cycle, course articulation, degree planning, FERPA, student development theory, and support of diverse student populations.

Preferred Qualifications:

Excellent oral and written communication, presentation, and PC/computer literacy. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint…) and other related software/databases.
