The Assistant/Associate Director develops and implements initiatives to facilitate student civic and community engagement and leadership development. In collaboration with faculty, staff, student organizations, and community partners, this individual provides opportunities for learning and service to instill in students civic values, leadership skills, and social responsibility. Among the high-impact programs organized by the Assistant/Associate Director are: the Hilltop Service Experience for first-year students; the Alternative Spring Break; Emerging Leaders programming; and the development of pipelines for students to pursue careers in leadership and public service.
Essential Functions:

Design and lead service-learning experiences for students;
Direct the Illinois College leadership program and advance student leadership development;
Partner with faculty to support and/or expand course-based community engagement and leadership experiences;
Direct Illinois College voter registration efforts and election programming;
Develop assessment criteria and tools for measuring outcomes for community engagement, leadership development, and service-learning programming;
Develop and participate in alternative break travel programs for students related to service, leadership and civic engagement
Serve as Illinois College's liaison with local community partners for curricular and co-curricular community engagement programming
Direct and manage the True Blue Toolkit in conjunction with Student Life colleagues
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree required; master's degree preferred
Experience in leadership development, civic engagement development, and/or high impact educational practices
Professional experience in a higher-education setting
Awareness of pressing contemporary social issues facing communities locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally
Knowledge of best practices in leadership development and community-based and service learning
Knowledge of and experience working with community organizations
Strong technology skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Knowledge of student development theory
Ability to communicate and work effectively with multiple constituencies including students, faculty, and staff at the College as well as members of the larger community
Intercultural competence and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
Self-motivated and able to work independently
Valid driver's license and ability to obtain college vehicle driving certification
