Overview

The Department of Campus Recreation within the Division of Student Affairs at Utah State University seeks a positive, collaborative, and dynamic individual to join our team as our Assistant Director of Competitive Sports and Youth Programs (Manager II). Reporting directly to the Associate Director of Programs and Assessment, the Assistant Director of Competitive Sports and Youth Programs is responsible for the development, coordination, implementation, and daily operations of all aspects of the Utah State University Aggie Rec Camp and Competitive Sports programs. This individual will be a key team member of the Campus Recreation Department, which provides aquatic programs, club sports, fitness/wellness, intramurals, outdoor recreation, youth programs, special events, extramurals, and collaborative programs.

Responsibilities

Program Management

  • Responsible for the administration, implementation leadership, and supervision of the overall Aggie Rec Camp, Club Sports, and Intramural Sports (Intramural Sports and Unified Sports).

  • Oversee the development of the policies and procedures for all Aggie Rec Camp, Club Sports, and Intramural Sports.

  • Compile, prepare, and maintain records for all programs of responsibility such as budget, participation numbers, injuries, and incident reports.

  • Oversee the development of program manuals and a comprehensive departmental staff training program.

  • Responsible for inventory and maintaining all program equipment and maintenance.

  • Assist in the development and implementation of risk management protocols for areas of responsibility.

  • In collaboration with the Assistant Director of Facility Operations, provide management, maintenance, and scheduling of the Aggie Legacy field, North Recreational Field, and HPER Pools

  • Provide oversight for scheduling and coordination of all Intramural Sports leagues, Club Sport events, as well as youth programing.

  • Develop, oversee, and administer all aspects of Aggie Rec Camp.

  • Maintain knowledge of local, regional, and national trends in youth camps

  • Work evening and weekends when necessary, regarding department wide special events.

  • Understand and represent the mission and vision of Utah State University Campus Recreation Department.

  • Oversee the marketing and promotion programs and services for programs responsible.

  • In collaboration, develop and implement comprehensive leadership program for all programs including; Aquatics, Competitive Sports, Fitness and Wellness, Facility Operation, and Outdoor Programs.

  • Serves on departmental, university, and/or national committees.

Personnel Management

  • Responsible for the recruitment, hiring, training, and evaluation of the Coordinator of Competitive Sports
  • Intramurals and Coordinator of Competitive Sports

  • Club Sports

  • Responsible for assisting in hiring, training, scheduling, mentoring, and evaluating Graduate Assistants, Intramural Sport Supervisors, Intramural Officials, Camp Counselors, Club Sport Managers, and other support staff.

  • Ensure delivery of a comprehensive student development program for student staff within Campus Recreation Programs.

Budget Management

  • Research, develop, monitor, and adhere to the Aggie Rec Camp, Competitive Sports (Intramural Sports, Club Sports, and Unified Sports) program budgets.

  • Oversee program payroll, tracking, and approvals.

Research & Assessment

  • Evaluate all Intramural Sport, Aggie Rec Camp, and Club Sport programs and services to determine overall effectiveness and satisfaction to decide on possible changes as deemed appropriate.

  • Assist in the development and implementation of the overall Campus Recreation research and assessment agenda to include development of student and program learning outcomes.

Other

  • Prepare written communications such as monthly reports, annual reports, participation statistics, etc.

  • Potentially teach one class within the Recreation Administration Major, as requested by department head.

  • Actively participate on a variety of Aggie Recreation Center, Campus Recreation University, and national association committees as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree preferably with a major in sports management, recreation administration, physical education, kinesiology/exercise science, business administration, or a related field.

  • Equivalent of three years full-time (including graduate assistantship), professional level experience managing and developing recreational programs or other community recreational programs during which time the applicant has acquired and demonstrated the ability to perform the essential duties of the position.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in related field.

  • Four or more years of professional experience developing recreational programming in a collegiate recreation setting.

  • Certification as a High School or College official in a major sport(s).

  • Standard Red Cross First Aid, CPR, AED and/or instructor certification

  • Active involvement in NIRSA - Leaders in Collegiate Recreation.

Demonstrate knowledge of/ability to do the following:

  • Administration, personnel & organizational management, budgeting, computer hardware/software operation, principles of superior customer service, and effective marketing

  • Interpret and apply university, Aggies Recreation Center, Campus Recreation, and USU rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Establish programmatic goals, facilitate change, and implement innovative programs and services. Oversee the work of others. Coordinate the timely completion of multiple tasks. Work independently under general supervision. Work as a part of a team to reach set goals. Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Generate and follow verbal and written instructions. Provide excellent customer service. Adapt to changes in the work environment. Work effectively in a multicultural environment. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Work varying hours including early mornings, late evenings, and weekends

Advertised Salary

Minimum $52,000; Commensurate with experience, plus excellent benefits
