Job Description:

The Assistant Director of Community-Based Learning plays a leading role in the cultivation, growth, and evaluation of local and regional partnerships and the design and execution of community engagement projects and initiatives. To this end, the position provides leadership and support to a team of student leaders who implement community engagement programming in such areas as environmental justice/sustainability, food and housing security, animal welfare, K-12 partnerships, and support for immigrant and refugee populations. With direction and support from the Director of Community-Based Learning and the AVP for Global, Career, and Community-Based Learning, and in collaboration with offices throughout the college, the Assistant Director also serves as Goucher's primary liaison and central point of coordination for a wide range of partnership activities through the university-based retirement community (UBRC) currently in development with Edenwald Senior Living.

Essential Job Functions:

50% EDENWALD UNIVERSITY-BASED RETIREMENT COMMUNITY (UBRC) COORDINATION - Serve as the primary liaison and point of coordination for the shared services agreement between Goucher College and Edenwald, with a particular focus on curricular and co-curricular programming and partnership opportunities. Proactively assess needs and interests within the Edenwald community related to partnership activities and other opportunities on the Goucher campus.

Design and lead conversations and professional development activities on the Goucher campus related to inter-generational engagement. Develop and facilitate a range of opportunities for Edenwald residents to engage with Goucher community partners within the framework of Goucher's existing curricular and co-curricular student programming. In coordination with the office of the Associate Provost for Undergraduate Education, provide day-to-day facilitation of course auditing by Edenwald residents.

25% CURRICULAR AND CO-CURRICULAR PROGRAM COORDINATION - Provide logistical and technical support for weekly CBL programming, which includes organizing and coordinating transportation for tutors. Develop and deliver ongoing training and professional development for undergraduate students participating in K-12 partnerships.

Provide supervision and support to undergraduate program directors (Student Leaders for Civic Action) who coordinate programs with the Office of Community-Based Learning's partners. Design, conduct, and analyze appropriate assessments of student learning and external program impact.

15% PARTNERSHIHP DEVELOPMENT AND OUTREACH - Represent CBL to community-engaged stakeholders within and outside of Goucher College. Work collaboratively with the leadership team to plan for and conduct focus groups, evaluations, and/or surveys to community partners to identify academic-community partnership needs and assets.

Organize and support community programs that increase the College's local visibility with Baltimore County and Baltimore City public schools. Conduct outreach to Goucher faculty and staff for the purposes of developing new partnership activities and/or expanding existing ones.

10% STRATEGIC AND ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT - Supervise CBL office interns supporting community-based learning initiatives, as necessary. Oversee the management of program budgets.

Monitor and track student wages for paid tutors and provide general support for the management of the Off-Campus Federal Work Study program. Provide programmatic details as needed by office and division leadership for fundraising, donor engagement, strategic planning, and assessment.

Education:

Required: Bachelor's degree

Preferred: Master's degree or higher in a relevant field of study

Professional Experience:

Required: A minimum of three (3) years of volunteer or work experience in higher education, human services, or non-profit organizations.

Knowledge and understanding of K-12 school systems, gained through at least one (1) year of direct experience working with K-12 schools and/or the school community. This experience could include: working or volunteering with schools directly, developing/implementing youth development programs with third-party providers (including institutions of higher education), classroom teaching, and/or support of out-of-school initiatives.

Preferred: 5 years of work experience in higher education, community-based learning and/or research, human services, or non-profit organizations.

Demonstrated experience in cultivating partnership activities between institutions of higher education and K-12 school systems and/or senior living communities.
