The Assistant Director of Communications and Global Partnerships will play a critical role in ensuring the success of the Arnhold Institute for Global Health and the Department of Global Health and Health System Design programs. The Assistant Director will lead the development, implementation, and coordination of the Institute and Department's communications strategies in partnership with Institute and Department leadership and Mount Sinai's Communications, Marketing, and PR teams. They will be responsible for the successful and effective communication of our story to key supporters, sponsors, internal and external constituents, and major donors and other key supporters. Their efforts to tell AIGH's story, strengthen recognition of the Institute and Department brand, and build the capacity of our global partners to engage in effective marketing and communications will play a major role in growing support for AIGH's global health programs and partnerships. The Assistant Director will also lead the Institute and Department's strategies to translate our global health research findings into more effective health policy and practice - helping to broaden the scale and impact of our faculty's global health research efforts. These efforts are critical to the success of the Institute and Department's Vision, Mission, and Strategic Goals.

Reporting to the Vice Chair of Operations, Department of Global Health & Health System Design & Director of Global Partnerships & Programs, Arnhold Institute for Global Health (AIGH), the Assistant Director will oversee the development and implementation of the Institute and Department's communications strategy. They will supervise the Institute and Department's communications team including the Communications Manager and external vendors for design and other services. They are responsible for managing all Institute and Department websites, social media accounts, blogs, and other media and will ensure all Institute and Department media are up-to-date. Their team will ensure effective internal and external communication, marketing, and brand compliance within the Institute and Department. The Assistant Director will represent the Institute and Department as our primary liaison with Mount Sinai's marketing and communications team as well as external communications partners including partner communications team and PR leads, vendors, and other relevant stakeholders.

In addition, the Assistant Director will contribute to the Department and Institute's fundraising strategy and engagement with philanthropic donors and other sponsors in coordination with Mount Sinai's Development Office. This includes coordinating across our partnerships to identify and communicate funding priorities. They will oversee the development and administration of constituent management and communications systems to engage program participants, supporters, and potential donors and develop effective programs to communicate with donors and supporters.

They will play a lead role in supporting communications strategy for AIGH's paid consultancies working with clients to identify, scope, and implement communications need. This will include developing and implementing national and international health communications strategies and campaigns, client capacity development, and resource development.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, directs, and coordinates Institute and Department communications strategies to ensure the success of the Institute and Department's vision, mission, strategic goals, Partnerships, and programs

  • Serves as primary institute and department liaison to Mount Sinai's branding, marketing, and communications teams

  • Participates in leadership meetings with key stakeholders and program leadership

  • Reviews Institute and Department cooperative agreements, work plans, budgets, performance monitoring plans, assessments, and other key strategy documents and advises executive program leadership on communications approaches and allotment of other resources needed for successful implementation of priority activities

  • Manages the Communications team to ensure the timely and effective implementation of Institute and Department programs and communications strategies

  • Develops and manages Institute and Department communications assets including, but not limited to, websites, social media accounts, promotional materials, blogs, press releases, and other media

  • Identifies, and as applicable provides, appropriate guidance and training to Institute and Department teams including faculty, staff, and consultants to achieve program goals

  • Establishes and develops partnerships with internal and external program stakeholders to support and facilitate the successful implementation of program communications objectives

  • Provides leadership to the Institute and Department communications team guiding program implementation, providing clarity on program priorities, policies and procedures, deliverables, and timelines

  • Oversees the management and implementation of assigned Institute and/or Department budgets for communications

  • Develops and presents program overviews, progress reports, and proposals to internal and external partners on behalf of Institute and Department leadership as needed

  • Maintains effective and constructive communications with Institute and Department leadership and other key stakeholders

  • Develops, implements, and evaluates communications strategies to support Institute and Department fund development strategies and goals including strategies to engage key constituents

  • Ensures all program personnel understand their responsibility to operate in accordance with the Institute and Department's vision, mission, and values, standards for equity, and policies and procedures, and ensures all program personnel fulfill their individual responsibilities for upholding these values, standards, and policies

  • Leads the development and implementation of communications strategies for the Institute and Department including the development of program reports, marketing materials, and materials used for outreach and program implementation

  • Manages direct reports ensuring individual performance goals and responsibilities are met and provides mentorship, training, and support to ensure their success

  • Advises executive leadership on strategy, communications, fundraising, and other strategic considerations critical to achieving program objectives

  • Travels as needed to global partnership locations and domestic and international meetings and events to represent and support Institute and Department leadership

  • Other activities as assigned by the Vice Chair of Operations, Department of Global Health & Health System Design & Director of Global Partnerships & Programs, Arnhold Institute for Global Health (AIGH)

Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in Health Care Administration, Public Administration or related field; Masters Degree preferred.

  • 5 years minimum experience, preferably in a health care setting

  • Excellent leadership, management, and communications skills, strong interpersonal skills, cross-cultural understanding, diplomacy and outreach skills to establish and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external partners, donors, and other stakeholders

  • Strong previous experience living in Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs) and working on donor-funded health and development initiatives strongly preferred.

  • A demonstrated track record of building and leading diverse, gender equitable teams in global health settings through leadership, recruitment, training, mentorship, and other activities to support and promote a diverse and equitable environment for faculty, staff, and students.

  • Significant and recent experience in a leadership role on a program related to global health

  • Ability to work with a wide-range of constituents in the international, academic, for-profit, governmental and non-profit sectors

  • Superior ability to understand, interpret, and communicate Department & Institute, Mount Sinai, and sponsor rules and regulations

  • Exceptional presentation skills including experience presenting to senior organizational leaders, policy makers, and board and trustee members

  • High level experience leading collaborative decision making and consensus building processes for international organizations and networks

  • Experience managing external communications about program performance and impact including expert knowledge of website content management, e-mail marketing and communications systems, social media platforms, and web based constituent management systems

The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $78884 - $153057.94 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
