POSITION SUMMARY:

The Assistant Director will be part of a Career Services Office whose primary purpose is to provide guidance and support to law students regarding career planning, job search strategy, and professional development. To that end, the Assistant Director will be a dedicated career counselor to graduating students, concentrating on their post-graduate career objectives. The Assistant Director will dually focus on employer outreach and recruitment initiatives, while contributing to the overall objectives and goals of the Career Services Office.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Counsels students during their 3L/4E/4P year as they prepare to graduate and, as necessary, immediately after they graduate and take a bar exam. Work with the students to develop a strategic and targeted job search plan that they will employ throughout their last year of law school and continue with after graduating and taking the bar exam. Develop programs and resources that address post-graduation job search strategies and encourage individual counseling meetings and communication with the students.

Develops and maintains relationships with traditional and non-traditional legal employers, such as law firms, corporations, government agencies, non-profit organizations, judicial chambers, and educational institutions, in order to foster recruitment opportunities. Create employment opportunities in two distinct categories: those that require bar passage and those where the Juris Doctor degree is an advantage to the position.

Engages with employers in the Pittsburgh legal market and other locations, as identified by students' interests and as informed by the CSO's employment outcome goals and strategies, NALP, the Pittsburgh City Group, and POWER Consortium. Coordinate and assist with recruitment events, including the Fall and Spring Recruitment/ On-Campus Interview (OCI) Programs and Small Firm Interview Weeks.

Creates, organizes, executes, and attends networking events and informational programs for all law students. This includes Lawyers on Location events that are held off-campus, as well as other events and programs that bring employers, alumni, and other visitors to campus throughout the academic year and during summer months.

Assists with the data collection, documentation, analysis, and submission of employment outcomes reported to the ABA, NALP, and U.S. News on an annual basis.

Understands and uses the career services management software, currently 12Twenty. This includes creating customized reports in order to inform outreach efforts, posting jobs and recruitment information, creating counseling notes, and advertising programs and events.

Create content for website and social media platforms used by the School of Law.

Performs other duties as assigned. Evening and weekend hours required.

REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited institution.

5 years of relevant experience.

Budget management experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Juris Doctorate from an accredited institution.

1-3 Years of related experience.

Alternately, the successful candidate may possess any equivalent combination of experience and training, which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the essential job functions. This includes, but is not limited to, the following:

The ability to set goals, establish priorities, and work on simultaneous assignments.

Must have or be willing to build relevant professional knowledge, including knowledge of traditional and non-traditional legal employment opportunities, practice areas, employment settings, and hiring methods.

Experience with Microsoft Office and Outlook, along with the ability to learn job specific applications and systems such as 12Twenty.

Must be forward-thinking and open to continuous learning.

Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.

Strong communication skills and basic knowledge of office equipment.

Work experience that involves prior career services, recruiting, or legal marketing experience.
