Position Summary

The Assistant Director of Video and Bear Vision is responsible for the designing, organization, production and implementation of all videos, live event production and web streaming for UNC athletics, along with the management of new media efforts. The position reports to the Senior Associate Athletic Director, External and works in coordination with all external units of the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.

Job Duties

Live Production

  • Assist in planning and producing game-day video roll-ins, animations, highlights, and other videos during live events.

  • Assist in recruiting, hiring, and managing game-day production crews, including freelancers (Independent Contractors), and/or student staff, who operate equipment during live productions.

  • Assist in coordinating live event production with direct oversight of production crew and in coordination with gameday marketing staff.

  • Assist in managing Venus control, live video production equipment, and stats integration in event productions.

  • Assist in working with athletic conferences and streaming companies to ensure required events are broadcasted live.

Pre/Postproduction

  • Work with and assist marking staff and consult with athletics external team on game-day scripts and presentation of the game experience as it relates to the video boards and social media.

  • Help create and develop department-wide video solutions for advertising and promotions, ticket sales, branding, etc.

  • Assist in managing and oversight of video boards and production software & hardware, including staying up to date on the latest technology and opportunities for increased video promotion and branding.

  • Assist in creating graphics and animation packages for live production events and creative production videos.

  • Manage and maintain video equipment inventory and connectivity.

  • Continue cataloging and archiving athletic videos, photos, and projects for future internal and external use.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

Experience:

  • Three years experience in creative video production including editing and shooting

  • Two years experience in live broadcast production or equivalent knowledge of live broadcast production, particularly videoboard production

  • One year exercising supervision and/or leadership

  • Two years experience in intercollegiate athletics or related experience

Ability:

  • Experience working in video production and editing software (i.e., Adobe Premiere Pro, Photoshop, After Effects)

  • Knowledge and experience with the technical use of professional-grade video and digital cameras (i.e., white balance, focus, aperture, gain, audio levels, aspect ratios)

  • Knowledge and experience with live broadcast equipment such as broadcast cameras, production switchers, replay system, and a variety of cables and connections

  • High level of creativity and expression

  • Strong working knowledge and demonstrated experience with social media

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Ability to function professionally in a highly stressful environment

  • Positive attitude and strong work ethic

  • Ability to contribute to a team environment

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule with availability during weekends and evenings

  • Desire to update skills on a continual basis and monitor trends and developing equipment in video/social media

Special Considerations:

  • Experience working in an athletic department from a video standpoint

  • Experience in game-day live event production

  • Experience with Ross equipment

  • Knowledge of basic web design

  • Graphic design experience
