High Point University is seeking a full-time Assistant Director of Athletic Bands. Duties include assisting the Director of Athletic Bands with the instruction, direction, administration, and operation of a comprehensive university athletic bands program. Specific duties also include attending and assisting with the instruction, planning, and organization of all athletic band rehearsals including pre-season band camp, conducting the bands at home athletic and other university events, participating in the artistic direction of the ensembles, student leadership selection and training, supervising of student workers and outside staff, writing field drill or/and music arrangements as needed and based on the experience and qualifications of the applicant, assisting with day-to-day administrative and organizational aspects including items related to recruiting, equipment inventory management, budget management, and other tasks as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education
Experience and Training
Experience with athletic bands at the university level required. Athletic band experience at the secondary level considered.
Additional preferred qualifications include successful record of secondary and/or university level teaching, advanced degree(s) in wind conducting or music education, and a background in woodwind, brass, and/or drum line.
Brass instruction experience preferred
Marching/Pep Band leadership and creative strategies for enhancing game-day experiences
Knowledge, Skills, Ability:
Knowledge of recruiting strategies
Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
Ability to travel to provide musical support for Conference/NCAA Tournament events
Budget management skills
Ability to provide instructions to all students in the band program. Music arranging experience preferred (not required). Familiarity with music notation software is preferred.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Assists the Director of Athletic Bands in all Athletic Band related activities, including rehearsals and game-day leadership
Leads sectional rehearsals
Recruits students for the Athletic Band
ACCOUNTABILITY:
The Assistant Director of Athletic Bands (ADOAB) is primarily responsible for Assisting the Director of Athletic Bands with weekly HPU Marching and Pep Band rehearsals and called sectional rehearsals
The ADOAB is responsible for game-day leadership at approximately 30 events, including all Women's home basketball games
The ADOAB will assist with recruiting students to join the Marching Band
The ADOAB will assist with Marching Band administrative responsibilities
