Job Description:
Amherst College invites applications for the Assistant Director of Advancement Data Management position. The Assistant Director of Advancement Data Management is a full-time, year-round position, starting at $67,000 per year. Given Amherst's distinction as one of the most diverse liberal arts colleges in the country, the successful candidate will demonstrate the ways in which they bring value to and will work towards supporting a broadly diverse community.
Reporting to the Director of Advancement Data Management, this position collaborates with Advancement colleagues and colleagues across campus, to identify, implement and develop services and systems to ensure appropriateness, relevance, and integrity of the biographical data in the Advancement CRM. The candidates for this role must demonstrate a high degree of attention to detail, computer literacy, and database aptitude. They should possess strong problem-solving, communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.
The individual in this role is expected to work as part of a collaborative and inclusive team, actively supporting a diverse workforce and participating in the College's efforts to foster a respectful, inclusive, and welcoming work environment. Additionally, all advancement staff members are required to support and staff key events such as Reunion, Homecoming, and Family Weekend. Occasional evening and weekend hours may be necessary for these events.
This position is eligible to participate in the College's hybrid or remote work program. All remote work must be conducted within one of the Amherst registered payroll states, which currently include Massachusetts and Connecticut. Further details will be discussed during the interview process.
Summary of Responsibilities:
Data Maintenance, Support, and Training
Manage and coordinate daily processes related to the Slate database, including the processes for uploading student, alumni, and family data
Create source formats to standardize ongoing data imports, upload data into Slate to create or update records
Collaborate with the Reporting & Systems team to identify opportunities for automation and process improvement
Maintain database accuracy and depth, overseeing seasonal data projects
Coordinate data sharing across campus, updating coding for various constituents including trustees, honorary degree recipients, commencement attendees and others
Responsible for reviewing audit reports and delegating data cleanup projects to the team
Provide mailing and email lists for constituent outreach
Develop and maintain an onboarding training program for new employees
Collaborate with the gift processing and reporting teams on projects as needed
Responsible for merging duplicate constituent records
Supervision
Supervise two full-time employees responsible for data entry
Hire and oversee a diverse group of 8-10 student workers responsible for reception and data entry
Qualifications:
Required
Bachelor's degree
Two to three years of relevant experience
Equivalent combination of education and experience in lieu of minimum education and related experience
Supervisory experience
Strong organizational, time management, and written and verbal communication skills
Attention to detail, accuracy, thoroughness, and organization.
Good interpersonal skills - ability to collaborate and work effectively with a wide range of personalities and levels (from technical to gift officers to Department Heads to admin staff)
Ability to work independently and/or work well with a team depending on the situation
Comfortable learning and incorporating new technologies. Focus on continuous improvement
Ability to synthesize information and set/suggest policy
Dedication to excellence and quality, appreciation of customer service
Commitment to or experience working with a diverse community
Preferred
Experience managing student workers
5+ years experience with a CRM within higher education or non-profit organization
