The Assistant Director of Advancement Communications and Events will support all areas of University Advancement by ensuring engaging, thoughtful and branded communications as well as assisting in the planning and execution of high-level development and alumni events. Directly reporting to the Director of Advancement Communications, Events, Leadership and Board Engagement, this position will help provide editorial, proofreading and writing assistance on marketing materials, correspondence, emails, website and social media to ensure overall quality, consistency, and alignment with the BGSU brand. This position will also assist in the planning and facilitation of development and alumni events including gatherings locally or regionally, Board meetings and related activities both in-person and virtually, and other occasions as determined by leadership.

  • Communications and Marketing. Assist in developing, editing, and maintaining various communication and marketing materials across print, digital, and online platforms. These include newsletters, event invitations, impact pieces, presentations, reports, and constituent communications. Provide proofreading and editorial support for all of University Advancement to ensure high-quality content that adheres to BGSU brand standards and aligns with advancement objectives. Manage the Alumni webpages, keeping content current and relevant, including information on upcoming events. Collaborate with the Marketing and Brand Strategy team to develop strategies, create content, and ensure timely updates on Alumni social media platforms. Monitor and assess the effectiveness of communication strategies using metrics and feedback and stay current on best practices and brand standards related to email and digital communications.

  • Strategic Programs and Activities. In coordination with all areas of University Advancement, assist in the planning and execution of alumni and development events and programs that engage and inspire our community of supporters. Help to identify suitable venues, liaise with vendors, oversee event logistics, create compelling event invitations and materials, and utilize the database to generate attendee lists and record participation. Work closely with university stakeholders to ensure that every aspect of the events and programs, from planning through follow-up, is tailored to enhance donor relations and foster a culture of philanthropy.

  • Board and Stewardship Support. This position will support the BGSU Foundation Board by coordinating and executing both on-campus and virtual board meetings, activities, and events. Responsibilities include collaborating with University partners to secure meeting spaces, arrange catering, manage technological needs, and oversee all logistics for on-campus gatherings. Prepare materials for meetings such as presentations, handouts, and itineraries. Additionally, organize guest speakers and student participation, as well as distribute, collect, and evaluate feedback through post-meeting surveys.

  • Other duties as assigned

The following Degree is required:

  • Bachelor's Degree.  Degree must be conferred at time of application.

The following Experience is required:

  • 1 year of work experience in communications, marketing, event planning, volunteer management, or related field.

The following licenses, certifications, or registrations is required:

  • Must have and maintain a valid driver's license and comply with the University's vehicle use policy.  

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Detail-oriented, with strong organizational skills

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including verbal, written and listening

  • Strong database and analytical skills

  • Ability to understand the needs and interests of constituents in order to develop relationships between them and the University

  • Demonstrated interest in all aspects of education and a dedication to promoting the University's strategic priorities

  • Ability to promote and participate in a collegial, team-oriented work environment

  • Strong computer skills, MS Office, PowerPoint, CRM experience (e.g. Blackbaud Raiser's Edge)

  • Experience with social media platforms

  • Highly motivated, ability to work independently
